: Throttle cable not long enough??

Swapped out a small block for big block and went to reconnect the throttle linkage and it looks like the cable will not be long enough, there is very little travel in the gas pedal. Also the bracket I adjusted as far back as it would go and it still sits cocked at an angle when bolted to the carb and the two rubber pieces that the cable runs through are apart about a 1/4" of an inch and I know they should be together. Anyone else have this problem? The car is '70 Malibu and the new engine is 454, RPM Performer with Holley 750. Thanks.

I'm going to be doing a big block swap soon, so I've been gathering misc parts. Just ordered the GM throttle cable for the big block with Holley from my local Chevy dealer. It's part number 336969. Should be about $15. Not sure about the bracket part of your question. Haven't gotten to that part yet. I was told that there are two different brackets. One for quadrajet and one for holley. Maybe someone else will chime in with more info.

Thanks for the info, I'll head out to the dealer tomorrow. I knew the cable length had to be different after messing around with it last night. I stopped at a speed shop today and they weren't sure if they were different.

FYI,
That cable assembly is available thru GMPartsDirect for $12.74 plus shipping.

I've found GMPartsDirect to be a great site to check availability of parts and get list/discount prices. I can usually buy locally for about the same "total price".....unless it's a big ticket item. Then, their price is awfully hard to beat.

I ordered the same cable today as you djw69elky and your right mine was 22.50 from the GM dealer so I over paid by 2 bucks.

Went to the dealership and picked mine up at lunch. $18.04 with tax. Dang.....they charged you list price. :( Ask for a break off list next time. Bet they'll work with you. If not, find ANY GM dealer that will. I buy a lot of my stuff from a Pontiac dealership.

I used the smallblock cable that was in my 68 when I converted it.Measure how how much more traval you need. Then remove the throttle pedal assy mount it in a vise and carefully bend the cable holder end so you have enuf travel.

Too late 68hotrod, already ordered it today. Plus I know I'd screw up bending the throttle pedal bracket, some things your just better off paying for, thanks for the tip though.
