: Slow down hwy speeds causes shudder

I'd be grateful for anyone helping out with my intermittent problem.

My car (suspension) intermittently rides very rough, like a shudder, through what seems like the front suspension. It typically happens on the highway, when I moderately brake for traffic slowing ahead. It feels like a shudder thru the suspension/tires, that can shake the whole car. After a couple of miles, or during other times, the car rides very smooth and solid.

In order to solve it, I've had the front end rebuilt with graphite polyurethane components about 3 months ago and the rear suspension done last week, to no avail.

My '70 Concours wagon's suspension is lowered in the front with 1 cut coil, and has the F40 sway bars and boxed rear lower control arms. I have new tires in the front and near new tires in the back, on 16x8 Torq-Thrust-II's. The shocks seem to be in good shape.

If you have any questions, please write me.

Thanks,

Mark

Hi Mark,if its only doing it when braking I would suspect the brakes, possibly a rotor or drum out of round, warped or thickness variation. You can figure if its the front or the rear be coasting down a hill and slowly apply the park-brake with you foot and pulling the release handle at the same time.If you feel the shutter its in the rear...if you dont its in the front.Have a shop check your rotors for run out.Good luck and let us know what you find! smile.gif C-yaa Vince

Thanks for the advice Vince!

If the rotors are warped, assuming that they aren't warped too badly, will turning them usually get them straightened out or am I looking at a replacement.

Should I look for an better rotor to prevent this in the future? If so, what do you suggest?
The brakes are a stock single piston.

Thanks

Hi Tsuki,it really depends on how thin they are.If they are close to minimum thickness might as well replace them. They warped for reason,if they are thin they wont dissapate heat as well.If they are your rotors you can get them cheap,$25-$35 ea at Kragen.Or you can get those fancy drilled ones from Summit...I run those on my A-body...havent seen any cracks so I guess Im not driving it hard enough? graemlins/clonk.gif Good luck C-yaa Vince
