Ok at the risk of sounding like a newbie (which I am) here is my problem. My 72 Malibu with an inline 6 recently started idling pretty rough and then stuttering or chugging when it starts to accelerate for about the first 150 feet, then she evens out and runs smoothly, until I stop again. I have replaced the fuel filter, the fuel pump and Im getting ready to hit the Carb next...any other ideas as to what could be the problem?

Oops I forgot to mention that I did change the plugs and wires about three months ago when I first got the car...

I spun my distributor and it did something similar to that. If you have a good way of checking the timing, try that. I didn't so I just adjusted my distributor back to where it was and kind of got it back to where it would idle good and not stumble. I'm a newbie too, only 20, had my car for a year and half so my info may not be of the highest quality, but most of it came from TC anyway. ok

Damn those 6 cyl! Might be carb problems, remove your air cleaner and inspect your carb. Its pretty common for the housing to come loose from the carb base.Grab hold of the air horn and see if it moves. But before you remove the carb try disconnecting the vacuum advance hose from the distributer and take it for a road test, see if that helps or ? good luck C-yaa Vince
