Switching from a 327 to a 454 and a friend gave me three brackets for the power steering that came off a 396 (not sure of the year). The only bracket that didn't go on was the one that has the slot for the belt adjustment. The cradle worked fine and the bracket that has the nut welded to it bolted right up as well. The adjuster bracket holes lines up with the pump but won't go on because the lines that carry the fluid are in the way. I bascially want to know if I'm beating a dead horse here! I was looking in the Ground Up catalog and they have a complete set for $50.00 but the picture only shows 2 brackets and the current setup I'm working on has three so I'm a little confused there as well. Thanks!

The three bracket set-up came on 69's & the two piece set-up is for 70 & up. I added power steering to my 66 & used the two piece bracket style. It works fine but it does require a spacer between the pump & the adjustment bracket.

I guess the pump was different from a '69 to a '70. I'm half tempted to buy a '69 pump because something on mine is leaking a very small amount of fluid and I already have the brackets. I think I saw that spacer for the '70 two piece setup in one of the catalogs also, it doesn't seem to be part of the kit that Ground Up sells.

The kit I bought from Ground Up is the same one your looking at: #ASB-7. It comes with everything needed to install the pump. I am also using a pump from a 69. It fits fine with 70 brackets. You just have to make sure you get the correct hose for the pressure fitting. The 69's have a male fitting on the pump which requires a hose with a female fitting. The 70's & up came with a female fitting on the pump.

As far as leaks, get a rebuild kit for the pump. I got mine from a local auto parts store for $16 & it was pretty easy to rebuild.

OK. Let me butt in here to make sure I understand this. I've got a 69 small block right now with power steering. I'm switching to a big block pretty soon. If I buy the 70+ brackets, can I reuse my smallblock pump and hoses? That would be great!

Your guess is as good as mine, I went on to my next set of problems :( . I'll probably end up buying the '70 bracket setup and hope it works with my pump. I talked to my local mechanic and he said you can change the reservoir on your existing pump to make the brackets work. Let me know how you make out, I'm interested to see what works for you.
