Ok, I have a installed a completely new fuel system. Fuel cell, Electric pump, regulator, 750 double pumper, all with stainless steel line. I have it set at 7psi fuel pressure. It was running fine for a day or so, then out of the blue - driving down the street -it died and would not start. After messing around with the carb settings, I could get it started enough to get it home (car died about 4 times on the way home-would not idle). I have narrowed it down to the fuel system, because when I crank it over, then release the key a cloud of smoke and gas spits out - even got a geiser of fuel to shoot up a few times!

Well after alot of trial and error, I could get the car started after taking the fuse out of the elec. fuel pump and after it is running I can get the car to keep running by reinstalling the fuse and turn down the fuel pressure to like 2 psi, or even 0 on the guage.

But it will not start with the elec. fuel pump hooked up at start.
Help, I do not know how to fix this! graemlins/clonk.gif

if fuel shoots out the vent then you have a stuck float more than likely. First motor I did I had jet extensions on the back and a foam float, I installed the bowl with it upright and the extensions jabbed the float causing it to stick. This will cause the needle and seat not to close flooding your motor out and shooting gas from the vent.

Case #2 check your dist, and rotor. Make sure the rotor is tight try to turn it by hand and make sure it dosen't move (nothing more than whatever advance is built in) If you can rotate the rotor alot then you might have dist gears that are chewed up. Also check to make sure your dist is pointing to #1 about 35* before TDC on your balancer on the compression stroke. YOu might have it installed 180 off

good luck

Curious, what would the distributor being 180 off do to the fuel system?

It does have a fairly new MSD system, but the car ran fine with the old set up-not until I added the elec. pump.

But it still can run fine, just not start when the elec. pump is on.
