okay, maybe a couple

1. If an individual removes the axles and :confused:forgets:confused: which side it came from----will it create any issues later on, if reinstalled to the wrong sides??

2. Any consequenses with taking the axles from one rear and putting in another?

3. How much wear is acceptable on the axle shaft where the bearing rides?

1. I think the axles are the same length, no matter which side.....if you put them both in and one is a different length, then just swap the axles:yes:. Shouldn't be hard, just put them both in and see if the C-clips will go on and if either of them sticks out.

2. Axles in another car, probably no problems unless the splines are different in the carrier, or the bearing/axle relationship is bad which leads us to #3

3. When I had new studs put in my stock axles, they said .010 thousands was the limit for wear. Mine were fine and my bearings/seals were fine/didn't leak so I left them alone. After all, if it blows up I won't be rebuilding it again anyway......S60 here I come!

Cool.
Thanks.

I took the axles from a 67 I have to do some experimental trimming on the portion that the wheel and hub center on. One of these axles has some pretty good bearing wear.

I will be pulling the axles from the other car for machining this Friday (note to self--mark axles for side).

Also be replacing the bearings since it will be semi-apart.

I am going to use late model S-10 wheels, and the centers are too small for the wheel to go on.

Had to take .020" (ovearall dia.) from the front hubs, and am considering removing everything but what is needed to center the rear drum on the axles (this was also left alone on the hubs).

Had to do this on my 59 for the disc conversion-----hate this part----the 59 axles were different lengths and I did not have to drain the oil either.
