: Power 'cuts out' then cuts in

I really don't know how else to 'describe' this situation. What is happening as when I am driving, it feels relatively normal. I then get on it a little-- no secondaries or whatever. Its as if the engine is only making 75% power, then all the sudden the other 25% power comes back on line. Its sort of weird.
I can try to describe this better if people point me in the right direction.
I am trying to get things ready for a track run wednesday, first time since may-- but I don't know if it will happen at this rate. Ran a 12.09 @ 113.8 w/ a 1.85 60', I've since reweighted my governor to get 6200rpm shifts and swapped out the old mech fan for a windstar unit. I wonder given the same 1.85 60' if I can break 11s..

What kind of fuel pump are you running and how much gas is in the tank when this happens? BTW,are you going to to LVD for 7/25?

Mr. 4 Speed,

I guess funny you should bring this up.. carter 120 GPH. 1/2 line tank to pump, 3/8 pump to carb.
Gas in tank is always 1/4 to 3/4, almost never full..
reason being.. The car has vapor lock issues. No return line and no method to vent gas fumes. I use a vented cap, which is useless. If I fill over 3/4, I manage to spill gas somehow. I have to stop and 'burp' the gas tank by opening the cap when the car starts running bad. I hope I don't sound like a dimwit admitting this.
As for LVD, I'm afraid I have to back out on Lebanon now, unless they switch sanctioning bodies. Find a dragstrip I really like, and turns out I *probably* can't use it the way I run. A 12.09 is not an 11 second pass, but as far as a 2 hour each way drive is concerned, I think it is. I don't have the safety equipment. Headed to NED on a wed. night either next week or the week after. I could never hook at NED, but, you have to run an 11.5 before you need a cage.

Matt,I have the Carter 172 mechanical, with 3/8 from the tank to the carb.My car has only one fuel line as well, with no return, and a vented cap.I'll splash some gas too,if I get on it hard with a full tank, but other than that,no problems with vaporlock/surging.Your problem has me thinking...how is your float level?
As fars as LVD goes, its between a 2-2.5 hr ride for me.I'm sure if You ran an 11.99 or better, they won't "kick" you off the track..with that in mind,a friend of mine has my old 442,that runs 11.96-12.05/112 MPH range at LVD,and he has no problems w/o a cage.
