Hi all,

I was wondering if anyone else has had any problems with their factory cruise control units on their cars. I have a 71 Buick GS conv. and a 70 El Camino SS 396 both with factory cruise control set ups. Unfortunately, both cars cruise controls arent working. Would anyone be able to point me in the right direction as to where to look to fix it? Has anyone else had a problem with these units?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The first simple checks are:
- is 12 V present at switch on column
- is transducer grounded properly
- is transducer getting engine vacuum (perhaps some check valve is stuck)
- is the cruise brake switch (normally closed) working properly

If further testing is required the procedure in http://www.si.hhs.nl/~rob/images/other/crs_72.jpg might be of help. Especially the "thunk" and the turning of the transducer connector is helpful.
