: Best 45" - 48" HD TV?
68454SS Jan 25th, 09, 6:04 PM Pretty much what the title says, what is the best buy for a LCD HDTV in the 45 - 48 inch range? Assuming all are 1080P, similar hookups, etc . . . the Sony Bravia seems to be the standard that everyone has, but if I can get a say, Philips or other brand for $300-$400 less, is there any noticeable difference?

Sounds familiar.
I just bought a 50" Vizio and could not be happier! The prices on these units are great. If you buy it at Costco you will get one xtra year warranty for free through them.
Good Luck

quikss Jan 25th, 09, 6:24 PM I have a LG 47" LCD that seems to impress my friends that all have similar LCD TV's. They seem to think it has a very good picture compared to what they have.

depley Jan 25th, 09, 6:54 PM I just bought a 42 inch Panasonic Plasma 720p for $588 a couple weeks ago. No this was not a remanufactured unit, it was a sale price locally.
Finally Jan 25th, 09, 7:25 PM Hitachi 42" rear projection and Hitachi 42" plasma. Rear projection is over 7 yrs old, plasma over a yr old. Don't know if they're the best but I like them.
Jebchevelle Jan 25th, 09, 7:28 PM I have a 37"DYNEX its best buys house brand made by LG for them it works great and for an extra $100 I got a 4 yr in home service even if the kids nock it off the stand its covered.
dscabra Jan 25th, 09, 7:50 PM Buying a new TV is tough when you are standing in front of a wall full of them. The thing to remember is that when you get your new TV home, it won't be sitting right next to that high-end TV that is at the top end of the price range. I have two Sony flat LCD TVs and one Visio flat LCD TV. They all have great pictures. My family room has a 46" Bravia XBR4 with all the bells and whistles. It is truly amazing when watching 1080p Blue-Ray disc movies and 1080i sports via cable. Standard definition TV look horrible on this TV. I have a 40" Sony XBR6 (120 Hz - 1080p) in my study, and the same pros and cons go for this TV as for the larger Sony. I have a 32" Visio in the bedroom that is only 720p, but on the smaller screen, it still looks great. The biggest differences in the Sonys and Visio that I have are the features. The Sonys are loaded with features, some I use, but most I don't. The Visio is pretty bare bones, but serves its purpose well. My advice -- buy the TV that YOU feel has the best picture/color/features that fits your budget. I normally don't go for the extended warranties, but I have one on each of my TVs, as replacing/repairing them is just too costly.

quikss Jan 25th, 09, 8:04 PM Samsung, there is no substitute
After having 3 die in the last 7 years, I have found there is nothing but substitutes. Bad luck? Perhaps, but I am far from the only person to say this.

fishhead Jan 25th, 09, 8:08 PM The most important thing you need to worry about with todays technology TV's is the bulb life...you can google the TV model number and the word review and bulb life...
There are TV's out there with a bulb life of 2000-3000 hours...If you have your TV on for 6 hours a day then your bulb has the possibility of dying every year...
A little trick I learned is to turn down the brightness and not go overboard with the colors...
The brighter you make your screen the more voltage goes into the bulb and the more heat is produced.
Any device that I have that has a screen (like my Archos) the brightness gets turned down. I dont need it that high. My LCD PC screen, the brightness is turned down also...
SAMSUNG ! ! !

I'd say bad luck, we have 3 Samsung LCD's, amazing picture quality. I even have two Samsung tube tv's from the 80's still working great in the house.
Enganeer Jan 25th, 09, 9:00 PM Samsung man. I am getting one of these soon. A co-worker got one a couple weeks ago.
The upgrade over the 650 version is cheaper...go figure.

JeffJeff, What has been the problems? I have a 46" Samsung LCD that blacks out once and awhile, just curious as to what problems you have had.
pnugene Jan 26th, 09, 12:01 AM Got a mail-out ad from HHGregg this week. 2 day sale on Friday-Saturday, Jan 30-31st. Outrageous low prices on Panasonic 1080P plasmas, about $1100 for the 46" model. I'd buy one, but I already have their 42" and 50" 1080p sets. Picture quality will knock your socks off, and they now have an effective anti-glare coating. Can't beat 'em.
