: GM Harmonic Balancer
alcapon's 68 Jan 25th, 09, 6:56 AM I have a new Original GM Balancer from Ground Up. Part Nr. NE-98....1970-72 all 454/502 8" externally balanced. On the balancer stamped is S 6339 and 8 224. Also on the "tag" that was on the balancer is 1021-6339.
My Block Casting Number is 361959 at Mortec it says 454...73 - 90... 2 or 4 bolt.
My Question is can i use this balancer???
Thanks for your help
What crank are you planning to use?
alcapon's 68 Jan 25th, 09, 9:05 AM the crank is stock as far as i know...just bought the car last sommer:D
BigBocks66SS Jan 25th, 09, 9:18 AM I would check with the local GM dealer with the # that is on the tag, if it is a OEM #, and they can tell you for sure the application that it was designed to fit. The 454's are externally balanced and use a different balancer and flywheel then other Chevrolet engines.
BigBocks66SS Jan 25th, 09, 9:20 AM I just noticed you are in Germany, it might be a little difficult for you to contact your "local GM dealer", we can check for you if you need us to.
I have a new Original GM Balancer from Ground Up. Part Nr. NE-98.

Part Notes:
This part is correct for 454 and 502 engines which are internally balanced.
This must be a typo in the GU ad.
d1_bradley Jan 25th, 09, 12:34 PM If you look on the back side of the balancer, you will see the 'weight' for external balanced engines. The internal balanced engine "balancer" will not have the "thick" section. Look closely at the picture where the arrow points to the "thick" section.

Thanks...that would be great.
Busted Knuckles Feb 1st, 09, 3:06 PM That's an external balance dampner. Should work fine on OEM 454's and 502's.
alcapon's 68 Feb 21st, 10, 12:27 AM The balancer is on and the belts stay on now. :hurray:
