I am painting my front suspension parts on my 72 with factory disk. What color is the backing plate, caliper and caliper bracket supposed to be? Thanks in advance.

Caliper and bracket should be cast steel. Backing plate I believe is cadium, like power brake booster.

Jonathan,
The only way I got my front end to look correct was to replace the backing plates which are a natural silver color and the caliper brackets are a gold anodize color. My calipers are a natural cast gray color. Parts look like what is in the attached item.

Thanks guys. Do they make a gold anodized paint? Being this car is a show/driver I don't know if I want to send the parts out to have it done.

I thought the bracket was cadmium, and the backing plate steel

Easstwood sells a kit. Looks fake imho. No other way that I know of

I've used the Eastwood kit that Andy69 is talking about, it doesn't look right, and won't stand up to the elements. You might save money just purchasing new backing plates, and caliper brackets vs sending your orignals off to be recoated. There are durable coatings available to refurbish your calipers.

Here's the caliper brakets on ebay for $39.00 and 59.00 with free shipping. Not sure why two different prices from the same company on ebay.

You could also check with one of our sponsors or a local vendor in your area. I personally like to buy from a local vendor when every possible so I can inspect the items first and don't have a hassel returning something if there is a problem.

I will get with James Hinshaw to see what he has. I am working up a big order for stuff.

One other question: What color is a factory proportioning valve on the frame supposed to be?

The proportioning valve by the master cylinder is cast gray, and the distribution block on the frame on my 70 is the gold color not black.

A 72 with factory disks uses the proportioning valve on the frame.

The dust shield is zinc plated and the caliper bracket is zinc with a yellow di-chromate finish.
Mickey Hale (http://www.haleperformance.com/) can do this or Sparky's Carburetors (http://www.sparkyscarbs.com/plating.htm).

I found a local shop to replate my backing plates and to gold annodize my caliper brackets. They did a great job and for only $30.00.
