I took the starter off to replace the exhaust with headers. Put the starter back and I also bolted back (2 nuts and a clamp to hold the steering column under the dash) the steering column and had the linkage connected from the Park position on the transmission to the column shift park position. Why doesn't the car start?
Thanks,
STan

Reversed the wires on the solenoid?
Yellow = "R"
Purple = "S"

Neutral safety switch is not adjusted correctly?

Stan, when you turn the key to the on position do you get power to the gauges/idiot lights on the dash? does the engine turn over or do you get nothing when you turn the key? In addition to what john suggested,also If you dropped the steering column check to make sure the wiring harness that is connected to the column didnt come loose.

John,
Where is the neutral safety switch?
69ragtop,
I have power everywhere. I just put in a new battery. The gauge on the volt meter show 10 1/2. It should be about 14. A long metal clip to the wiring harness came loose but I didn't put it back. The clamp that holds the steering column hold the wiring harness. Hope that's good enough.
Sorry for the late response.
Stan

Like John said check neutral switch.It needs to know if your in park or neutral.I think it is purple and large green.

Now might be a good time to buy a tester and manual.

had the same problem. checked neutral safety switch and it was good. had contacts on celenoid changed and armature replaced in starter. also, added a heat shield to starter because i also have headers and they are very close. changed and beefed up positive and negative wires for battery have not had the same problem since. please excuse my spelling.
