I have a 1967 Chevelle SS convert 138 turbo 400 collum shift first week of July and the motor was missing from the car what dated motor would be correct for this car 1 month or 2 to 3 months before car bild date???

I would look for one of the below codes on the block and look for a build date before July. Like a an E (May) --(Day built) 7 (Last digit in the year "67")

Here is the coded block castings for "67" Pending on HP
ET 396-4 325 TH-400
EU 396-4 350-L34 TH-400
EV 396-4 325 TH-400 A.I.R.
EW 396-4 350-L34 TH-400 A.I.R.
EX 396-4 375-L78 Standard A.I.R.

Block Casting# 3902406....396.......67......2 or 4 bolt

Like this:1967 Chevelle/Camaro 396 375HP 4 bolt block. Cast 406 Date E-8-7
Maybe someone else can give you some more advice as well.

Look up Moretec.com or Chevellestuff.com to look for cast dates and codes.

Good Luck

I've seen even further than 3 months but those are not the norm. You are not planing to restamp the deck are you?? Nobody will ever see that DATE or Casting and it won't get judged so don't kill yourself looking or brake the bank ;)

There are some people out there that do a very good job of restamping blocks, correct type of stamp, proper marks in the block, but is it ethical ? Original engine cars are just that original. There is only one, you can say you are getting it stampted just for show or what ever the reason is, the fact is someone, someday will think they bought an original car when in fact they were ripped off. With the high price of original collector cars it is worse then ever, some dealers are now being sued for fraud for not diclosing that a car was a restamp, there famous words are it is # matching, but they don't tell you it's a restamp. It's a hard call to make, but not for me, get the right block and all the right parts but don' stamp it, but that is only my opinion. Good luck

So, are you planning to Restamp it? My guess is No after hearing what has been said about the practice unless you have some Big Balls to admit that here :D

Just know.. either way.. doing it will get you almost nowhere from a SHOW perspective.. as there are few if any Chevelle Judged shows that Look at the deck stamps nevermind casting dates and other dated parts for Points.. :( Finding Correct stuff and Dated parts, etc.. is all about personal fullfilment these days...doing for yourself and the love of spending money :)

I never gave it a thought or even would have asked if it wasn't asked of me in this post. I would be happy to find what parts that the car had. thats all. and put it back the way it was.
