I need some help.I just rebuilt my Holley 650 vac sec last Sunday and now my secondaries won't work. The linkage is free and the diaphram is fine but i just can't get any vacuum to it.

I can rev it up then pull the secondaries in and it works but just not by vacuum alone.

I've taken the canister off and rebuilt the whole thing i've also pushed the plunger up and then put my finger over the hole to see if it would hold and it did so thats fine.I've also sprayed carb cleaner in the vac sec hole going into the carb and its clean too.Is there a hole i could have stopped up by over tightening something?

Right now i've got the pri float set rich so it'll run on 2brls  but it runs like %#%# on only two graemlins/angry.gif

The only thing i was unsure about is the base plate screws. There are 8 screw holes but only 6 screws and i forgot which holes the other two go in ,could that be the problem?

The kit was a Holley Trick Kit but it was more of a basic kit with no diaphram springs or accel pump cams or anything fancy like that.I did notice alot of metal gaskets instead of the usual paper type, the one of the power valve was metal too

Thanks,

You cant open the secondaries by revving the engine without a load on it. Try putting a paperclip on the vacuum rod at the top. Take it out and nail it and see if the paperclip moved. If it has moved then you know your secondaries have opened. :D

You cant open the secondaries by revving the engine without a load on it. Thats the way i've always tested it  and it worked graemlins/clonk.gif

Right now it chugs and bogs alittle at takeoff then once the rpm gets up it'll take off like nothins wrong just alittle slow because of the 2brl thing

Are you sure that you replaced the O-ring between the vacuum pot and the main body? If it's not there it will never work. Mine don't open sitting in the driveway either. I have to get it out on the road - and the paper clip trick does work pretty well.

Yep,i replaced the o-ring/ cork gasket too.I also read the holly thing where is said to use the paper clip trick.I've never heard that reving it won't open the sec,i've seen it work before and even my bro,a mechanic and hotrodder has always tested the sec that way.Oh well,i'll give the paper clip trick a try tonight.

Thanks.

One more thing, would the screw placement in the baseplate make any vacuum difference?

What screw are you referring to? Secondary throttle adjustment?

No,i was talking about the baseplate screws. There are 8 holes but only 6 screws and i didn't know if the placement of the screws had anything to do with the vac sec problem.

I still havn't tried the paper clip thing yet,the way its been acting lately i think the sec are working but my floats are just way off.

Thanks
