I have a '70 Chevelle with a 396. When I tried to start it this morning, I got nothing. It didn't even click. The battery is relatively new as are the altenator and voltage regulator. The battery seems to be fine because the lights, radio, etc. work fine. Plus, it's an AC Delco with the eye in it and the eye is a nice green as it should be. I tried cleaning the terminals, which looked fine, but still no luck. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Sounds like a bad starter, bad ignition switch, or loose wiring in between. I guess the starter is the easiest...get under there and give it a few good whacks with a hammer. If it then tries to start, replace the starter. Beyond that, its time to pull out the volt meter and see if the switch is sending a good 12V to the solenoid. If that is the case, you'd still have to look back at the starter.
You can pull it and have a parts store look at it, but be forwarned...I've been down the same road. Car won't turn over...pull starter, auto shop says it's OK..put it back on, nothing...pull again and retest...OK, put it back on, nothing! Finally pull it off and put on a gear reduction unit...perfect for 5 years and counting!

Thanks. A couple of good whacks got it. Now it's off to NAPA.
