: Am I doing something wrong on CL?
Alwhite00 Jan 23rd, 09, 9:40 PM OK, Here's the deal - I am surfing craigslist and come across something I am interested in and there is no phone number (that would make it too easy) so I go the the top of the ad and click on the email and it pops up an email screen. I type in my question and give them an email to respond back to.
I have done this 6 or 7 times and never got a response, Am I doing something wrong?

70isfine Jan 23rd, 09, 9:44 PM Try to copy the address then go into your email account and paste it in the address bar. I think if you click on the email in CL it brings up Microsoft outlook and if you dont have it configured your email is going nowhere.
sschevellefan Jan 23rd, 09, 10:22 PM They may have sold it or their spam filter is sending it to the spam inbox and they didn`t catch it. I get emails from craigslist in my spam folder sometimes.
Cecil Jan 23rd, 09, 11:29 PM Make sure you don't have CL blocked on your end - perhaps their response is getting stuck in your junk mail.

His question should come from CL, the response from the seller would not. It would come from his personal email.
If they didn't leave a phone# or email address in the ad there should be a Reply to link near the top of the ad, above the date and time posted. If not then at the bottom of the ad click send note. That will send the seller an email that he did not leave any contact info.
I had some stuff for sale, some people said they sent me 3 emails, I only received one. I had the ad set to email through CL so maybe they have an issue.
Dean Jan 24th, 09, 8:45 AM IF your email is on your machine and not hotmail, yahoo mail, gmail or the like, the first thing to do is see if the message is in your "sent" folder.
I have to open up outlook and hit send/receive after sending from CL.
90% of the people never reply.

It's not just you, It happens to me all the time. I have called people that have a phone # and leave a message and they never call back.
Alwhite00 Jan 24th, 09, 9:07 AM I actually cut & pasted the address into my regular email and I got a response back just this morning. Yahoo!!! - Maybe that is the key. I have also called people and left messages before and never hear back, Even had one have a machine that says that this number is no longer accepting calls, Why put your number on the darn ad if the phone don't work?
Thanks everyone.

Finally Jan 24th, 09, 9:51 AM Something about the people that buy and sell on CL. We put some of my daughter's furniture on CL. Must have gotten 30-40 emails, "Is it still available? Can I come and see it?" I reply with a contact phone and never hear from the people.
I also like the ads like this. "What we have here is one bumper, good shape, no dents, $45." No pic and no where in the ad does it say what vehicle this stupid bumper is for.
cessnarob Jan 24th, 09, 10:23 AM Start watching your e-mail for spam...somethings get posted with no contact so they can get your e-mail address and sell it!!! I know this cause my buddies wife does this for side money..good money too!! She thrives on craigslist postings..from date ads too car parts!!! And my buddy who is a good long time friend wants to know why I don't let him have my e-mail..
70isfine Jan 24th, 09, 2:50 PM You just have to learn to have a trash email address and a real email address. I get next to zero spam on my real email address.I only give it out to real people i know and want to have correspondence with. The other address I give out to whoever asks for it including websites i visit, craigslist, and every other thing that seems to need an email address. That one of course it inundated with spam. If i need to find something in there like a Craigslist ad i responded to i just use the search Email function. There are several thousand unread emails in there now.

I have to laugh at those ads with no mention of what vehicle the part is for.
Usually bumper is spelled bumber though.

Ditto, crap email address on yahoo, real one on my isp. I've noticed that when I list anything on CL I will get half a dozen scammer emails. I just delete them if they want info that is listed in the ad (my listings are detailed with photos) or what to pay with a cashiers check. If I think they are legit I will send an email telling them the terms are cash and if they are legit to email back. No one gets my phone number or real email address on line, I tell them to give me a phone number and call them with directions. On car parts I will meet them in a parking lot, too many guys responding to ads to just scoutout places to rob these days.

Let's not even go into the spelling, sometimes you can't figure out what they're selling unless they included a picture. Today somebody was selling a '64 Gaalixie bumber.
One of my favorite ads was for a welding torch. Darlene was nice enough to include a picture in her ad, a picture of a propane torch. Looked like the propane tank was about 30 years old. She was only asking $15 for her welding torch.
