: yeah buddy.....
1BLACKHARLEY Jan 23rd, 09, 10:25 AM well i took the boys indoor cart racing last night. i've never done this and finished second to a guy who's spending his 401k at this place. these weren't 5h.p. thumpers, they were electric, and the torque and speed these things are capable of was pretty impressive.
i'm lucky this place is a couple towns over, or i'd be homeless in mere weeks, this is highly addictive. even though the track was pretty tight, there were two sweepers that you could drift at fairly high speed, one of my boys put it into the wall twice. the walls are basically big lego blocks, and it was good to have full helmets and neck braces, being he was actually trapped under the wall once. i lapped one boy, and was on the verge of lapping the second on the last lap and came up about 4 feet short at the finish.
i really need to lose the address of this place, or you'll see me on the freeway off ramp with a sign, "will work for races"......
webfoot Jan 23rd, 09, 10:31 AM Sounds like a blast, something I've always wanted to do.
I gather its kinda "spendy"?
67ElkyBryan Jan 23rd, 09, 10:34 AM I know what you mean. Carting is very addictive and can drain your wallet even faster than a Chevelle can.
There are no indoor tracks around here anymore. At least that I know of....Thank god.

$23 for a 14 lap race
$18 for a 9 lap jr.
lunch $20 a 14 lap race
lunch $14 a 9 lap jr.
if you join ($?) you get a free race, plus a free race on your birthday, plus a discount here and there.
so to sum it up, three of us last night, one 14 lap each, $69. although they have a nice spectator area to watch the races, a pool table room, and a pizza joint.
i definately saw people there last night, that spend way too much time there. a guy in our race, liked to rub, just a little too much, and didn't take into account young children, and first timers into his thought process. we had a few words on the way out the door.
he was your typical idiot, who thought he was jeff bodine or something, gotta wonder about a guy who's proud of putting a 12 year old into the wall, or rearend me hard enough to put my car sideways, but everywhere you go, you usually can find a jack ass...
Emptytank Jan 23rd, 09, 11:01 AM I went to one of those places last year in Las Vegas, It's amazing how much fun the electric carts can be. We have another indoor track here in Sacramento, with gas powered carts, and I don't think it is as much fun as the electric carts. (and you can breathe!)
Bad66Chevelle454 Jan 23rd, 09, 12:23 PM Bill,
What you're describing is exactly like the place we have down in Corona. I think it's called Pole Position? Me and my buddies checked it out....didn't race, but it looked awesome. Those little carts flat out moved! I'm sure when you're driving one on that course it seems alot faster too. But I remember they had food, video games, and all that stuff too.
The coolest thing about the place, it was decorated in all motocross/supercross stuff. Apparently alot of super/motorcrossers come in there and race. The Kawasaki test supercross track is about 10 minutes from it. They had old bikes from pro's, like James Stuart's 125 2 stroker, and Jeremy McGrath's bikes. Lots of old riding gear, helmets, etc. I remember they had a few standard track layouts, and on one of them, if you could beat James Stuarts time, you won some free races. His record was insane...super fast.
Way cool place...I'll have to go back and race sometime!
1BLACKHARLEY Jan 23rd, 09, 12:47 PM you know? i heard some people talking, and they were talking a lot of bike racers frequent this place. i don't know what the connection between moto-xer's and cart racing is, but they made it sound like these guys were there all the time. maybe racers just like going fast no matter where, or what they are piloting.
Bad66Chevelle454 Jan 23rd, 09, 3:28 PM Bill, I think you're right. They just have a need for speed.
The one connection I can think of....The place here is in Corona, as is the Factory Kawasaki SuperCross track....so maybe after riding thier bikes all day, they go goof off with these carts? Who knows. I know Mike Metzger's supermoto bike was on display in there. But he lives in Temecula area, so that makes sense too.
68KMENO Jan 23rd, 09, 6:16 PM it used to be a blast to play with the carts ......it sure seems like your really hauling "A" when your only 1/2"off the ground an the sound of Yamaha's on each side of your helmet add to the effect
now days the tracks are mostly gone from my area ....... an its turned into a Elites only sport for the most part :(
Brian_d Jan 23rd, 09, 6:21 PM Bill, What is the name of this place & where is it? I've heard of an indoor track somewhere in Sylmar, but haven't been able to "track" it down...

jpete Jan 23rd, 09, 8:59 PM Here's my local place.

I'm hoping to get my son in one of the leagues. The karts for the public can go in the 40+ mph range. The league karts are faster. :D
OrrieG Jan 24th, 09, 1:15 AM They have a place here with gas carts. A couple of times a year a bunch of architects and engineers get together and have grudge races. Usually get to run 3 heats of maybe 20 laps and average cost is about $40 per person. We do it during the week in the middle of the day and there are about three groups of 8-10 racing. Guess we get a deal because of the number and time?? It is a blast, can't be afraid of sliding or you don't finish very high.
Rowdy Jan 24th, 09, 4:01 AM Kurt Busch is one of the owners of our local "Pole Position". Battery technology has really changed the performance of rechargeable electric in many applications. These carts are impressive. It may seem a little faster because the confinement of the building and the slickness of the concrete. They boogie and are more competitive than some of the decaying gas carts that have everybody sprinting for the one cart that lapped everyone twice in the previous field. Don't get it, you spend the whole race blocking the guy that did or coming up about 5' short on every straight away trying to pass the other slowpokes.
Oh, by the way Bill, I'm the guy going for the "CUP" and don't mind driving over, under or thru every freckle face kid to do it. Keep in mind that my 9 year old may just now be nearing the required height, so every time that we've gone since my daughter was born (16 now), I've been relegated to a two seater and a white knuckle passenger. My daughter was always "get 'em dad", but I think my boy is a secret agent for OSHA. "Slow down, look out, do we have enough gas?"

Chris R Jan 27th, 09, 4:32 PM Our Chevelle club here in MN met at the local indoor track before our meeting last month. Its always a blast. The price here isnt far off what the prices you are posting either Bill. One of thier locations closed a few years ago. Although its great fun, I dont see this kind of entertainment vs. the value you get lasting much longer, 20 dollars for what is essentially about 10 minutes worth of entertainment just isnt worth it to me and I think the economy will catch up to them. I was glad I had a buy one get one free coupon.
