I just started a 66 elky that sat for years. we cleaned the fuel tank and put a filter inline but still filled my new edelbrock 750 full of crap from the fuel line ....rats!! now the carb just overflows with gas, I've pinched off the fuel lines a couple of times but that hasn't cleared it. how do I get this stuff out of my brand new carb? do I tear it down ...if so to what point and what do i do? will new gaskets or a rebuild kit be needed? I'm good at most things but hate carb work and auto tranny stuff!! what's the easiest way to fix this????

from my experience, with a 77 spitfire and 63 mgb with dual carbs and my holly on my chevelle once a bunch of sludge and crap gets in the carb you need to rebuild it because of the little bitty passageways

Ray,
The needle and seat is stuck open from dirt and the only way to effectively do this is to pull the top of the carb off and do some spring cleaning. But, you could try tapping the inlet to the fuel bowl just to see if you might be able to "help" the dirt through, but this is a long shot.
If you need help, call me.

The Edelbrock carb. is really easy to tear down///clean and re-assmbl. with no new parts or gaskets,,,since yours is new, no problem,,,should take you no more than an hour.

thanks guys...i pulled the top off ..... what a breeze!!!!! i am ashamed to admit i was so fearful of this. may last carb experiences (when i gave up workin on them) where when i drove studebakers. i tried three diff carbs, screwed them all up bad and just figured i was carb challenged.....i think i'm gonna go outside and tear down a tranny now!!!!!!!
