Okay, here goes...

My ignition sucks......really bad. You used to be able to turn it to the left and the barrel would come out with the key. Then I left it over the holiday weekend in a friends garage "safe and sound". When I came back, it wouldn't start. No cranking noise/nothing.

Her roommate says her dad was "taking a look at it", but didn't touch anything. I think she's lieing.

Before this weekend, when I put in the key and turned it to the right the GEN light would come on, as well as the heater motor which was rigged by a previous owner. Turn the key a little further and roar goes the Chevelle. Now, If you turn the key to the left the GEN light comes on, and if you turn it as far as you can to the right, nothing!!!

Well, before taking it out on her, I decided to try charging the battery which had mysteriously gone dead. Nothing. The battery is 2 months old. Voltage regulator, starter, and coil, and distrubutor are all new.

A couple weeks ago the pigtail on the alternator took a dump on me. I put on a new one, but I don't know if I got the wires on the right terminal. It had no problem keeping a charge or starting after sitting a few days until this weekend. I'd planned on putting in a kill switch/keyed switch and a pushbutton starter. Also, I'm going to put on a new Positive battery cable.

I will run new wires (10 guage) to the starter and coil from the ignition. What would be the best way to wire in a kill switch and the pushbutton ignition? In the wire from the ignition to the starter, or from the ignition to the coil? What problems could I run into replacing these wires? (Besides scraping my knuckles or getting dirty) Do I need to install a porcelain balast resistor? I've heard GM built them into the ignition wire from the key to the coil in the 66 cars.

Sorry it's so long, I just wanted to offer up as much info as possible.
