Looking into both of these. Ive read about both and still alittle cloudy. They seem to be 2 totally different units. Anybody know about both of these that can provide some laymens terms for someone as slow as me?

Pros and Cons of each unit?

The US Gear unti is a heck of a lot cheaper than the gear vendors which has me looking at them both. Thanks for any insight.

I haven't heard of US Gear, but Gear Vendors is an excellent company. The intial investment may be high, but thier units are darn near bullet-proof, and If you have any problems with the unit, thier warranty is outstanding. The 1st expierence that I had with them was on a motorhome that had one of thier units installed by the previous owner, and it was giving some problems, the new owner had found the paperwork for the original installation and gave it to me and I called the company. The unit had been in the vehicle for about 5 years, I gave them the model & serial #'s and I told them what was going on with the unit, and they diagnosed it over the phone as needing rebuilt, and said that they would send a completely reconditioned unit for $350 exchange. I was very impressed with thier service, how something that had been in service for that long, under the conditions, and they basically stood behind it, even after 5 years. Just remember, you get what you pay for. I have had several of thier units in my shop for routine service, which is pretty simple, and customers are very satisfied with them. They recommend using GM's Syncro-mesh lubricant that is used in some of GM's manual shift transmissions.

the us gear for a car is called V2OD. it is a unsyhcronized unit. it can be shifted while driving but only at low speeds and not under load. for what most people do it is the OD to buy. there really is no need to shift into OD all the time. just put it in OD and drive it. when you want to have better performance, then tyake it out of OD. tom

Like the old 3-speed stick OD's where you came to a stop and either pulled out or pushed in the OD "T"-lever.

And if I remember right, once in OD, you could clutch-less shift if you were careful!
