in my 71? I haven't changed them, since I got the car. Not that I've had it that long (9 mths) and only driven it a mile. It had been sitting for years and i've replaced the plugs, wires, belts, etc etc. I started it yesterday and it was backfiring, choking and you name it, it was doing it. Thanks

It's been a long time since I've dealt with points but I'll try and help. Just remove the distributor cap and rotor, the points are underneath held in by a screw. When the new points are in you need to turn the engine over until they are open then adjust the gap to .019" using the allen screw on the points. If you have a dwell meter you can adjust them while the car is running through the little window in the disrtibutor cap. Dwell should be 30 degrees. Hope this helps some.

Go to your nearest salvage yard and find an HEI distributor. Problem solved.

A $15.00 Chiltons manual covering your car will not only tell you how to do it, but will give you pictures also.
