I just picked up a 71-72 rear bumper for my 70 project. It has the taillight housings, but no lenses. looking in the OPGI 08 catalog it shows different listings for the 71 lenses and 72 lenses. They also list the lenses with or without trim ring... What ring are they talking about? It also shows that the 72 el camino has round taillights?? I always thought they had the same lenses as the 70-71 el-Camino. On E-bay I found a bunch, but they are all listed as 71 and 72 lenses... Anyone have pics of the differences? Since I don't have anything on there yet, I'd like to get the best looking lenses if possible.

very difficult to explain, you really need a photos of both in front of you. The backup lenses are different, the raised and silver edges are different. at first glance they look the same but they're not.
why are you putting a 71/72 bumper on your 70? you know you'll need a different wiring harness too, right?

That picture is perfect... Just what I was looking for. I'm building a non numbers car, Deffinately pro-touring/hot rod. The 70 bumper is OK, but the shape of the bumper just doesn't seem to match the lines of the car. Also the square taillights seem a little out of place. The 71/72 is more round, and the lines seem to follow the style of the body a little better. The round taillights seem like they are a better fit also, 4 round headlights, 4 round taillights....
Maybe it's just personal preference, I deffinately like it better!
Let me ask you guys this. Obviously the outer lamp is the brake/running light, The inner lamp is a reverse light, but does it also come on as a running light? or is it strictly a backup light?

It is strictly a reversle light. I have seen an led kit that lights up the outer ring as a tail light.

Do you by chance have a link or pic?

I am going to figure out how to put a set of those blue inserts in mine sooner or later.

I can't remember but I think it might have been a kit from one of the members here but I heard he no longer builds the kits.
