Both Dodge and Ford have released "White wrapper" Factory Drag cars in their Challenger and Mustang to compete in NHRA Stock and Super Stock competition. Will we see GM do the Same with the new Camaro?

Shows how bloated the new one is compared to the old one IMO makes it extra ugly :D

Don't care if GM builds a race Camaro, just hope they build one for the public to buy

GM is truly dropping the ball with this new Camaro no matter how it ends. If they intend to build it, why are we seeing absolutely precisely no advertising for it? And if they don't intend to build it, then why are they taking money as down payments for them?

I sure wish GM would advertise this thing like Ford did with the Mustang a few years back. It was nearly a year ahead of the release and commercials were all over brewing up excitement for it. Yet we see nothing for the Camaro. GM needs to fire everyone responsible for marketing and advertising, as they suck at their jobs. My wife had the style channel on yesterday morning, they were showing some extremely high end fashion show, sponsored by chevrolet. Why? Why would chevrolet sponsor something like that. If GM wants to waste money on something like that, at least have Cadillac do it since so many of those high enders drive escalades. They aren't driving cobalts, thats for sure.

I still think one of the funniest posts I've read on here was......

"A Camaro is the Jesus of cars, everyone talks about it, yet no one has seen it."

Sorry I can't remember the poster's name. But it should be on the list when awards are handed out.

Some of our Detroit-area members have been seeing them driving around for close to a year now.

Dropping the ball? Not sure if your aware but GM has been asking for loans from the government. I pretty sure they are more interested in paying bills for cars that have been built and doing other things to keep from going into bankruptcy. Dropping the ball? Sounds like they are trying to do what the government has been asking of them, like documenting where the money will be spent, i.e. in cars that will run on something other than gas. How do you think people would feel knowing that their money went to advertising? I'm sure we would hear all sorts of crying why GM spent the money on advertising instead of modernizing cars or their plants. Everyone wants to critzie the carmakers but heaven for bid someone was to question IMG for having executive retreats. It seems everyone wants to critize the carmakers but you didn't hear crap about IMG using the BAIL OUTS for parties. Everyone thinks they know how to run a car company as large as GM, incredible.
As far as the fashion show, when did GM make the commitment to sponsor the fashion show? This could have been done months or maybe years ago, maybe for charity or for something else of the sort but without knowing that its dumb to assume any reason why. I guess it goes back to everyone thinks they know how to run an automaker.
Dropping the ball, I don't think so. They're building something that we all supposedly wanted, a V-8 rwd car, good horse power figures ACROSS the board(from a V-6 to V-8) and some are still cryin.

I retired from GM Oshawa but still have lots of friends there. Some work on the Camaro project. The line workers were called back in early November. I would think that production would be up to speed by now. One of my friends, a tool and die maker, sat in one and thought it was pretty nice. I don't know when these cars officially go on sale but I would imagine that they will start showing up at dealerships pretty soon. I was told that the big horsepower SS Camaro was put on hold or cancelled. Not sure which. Keep your eyes open.
As for building vehicles that people want, up until three years ago, our truck plant was running three shifts with overtime thrown in on the weekends. So were Fort Wayne and Pontiac. All to build what people wanted. With all the other things that collapsed in the economy, all of a sudden people couldn't afford the big expensive vehicles. If you know anything about the auto industry, you will realize that you can't design and build new vehicle in 3 years. It would probably take nearly that long to build all the tooling and convert a plant to build more Malibus or whatever is selling well. The new Camaro line is designed around the Flex Manufacturing System. I don't really understand all that is involved, but apparently they can run several different vehicles on the same line and change overs are much quicker. The auto industry works on a massive scale and changes don't happen over night, even if they wanted to. I don't imagine too many of us here could haven envisioned three years ago the shape our economies would be in today.

This is at least the second time it’s happen to US automakers. In the early 1970’s the market went from big engines to small cars very quickly. The US manufactures should have had car designed and ready for market. They spent too many years leaving the small cars to the foreign market. This many be due to import laws for trucks being different. I’m not an expert but I would have liked too see the US have a larger share of the Corolla/Civic market. This is just another lesson in putting all your eggs in one basket
