I have a '72 Chevelle, and I keep hearing a mystery front-end sound I can't identify. It happens sometimes when I'm taking off from a stop, OR sometimes when I'm coasting and give it gas to pass another car.
I'm having a really hard time identifying it because it happens very quickly...it sounds exactly like the sound a C-wrench makes when dropped on concrete.
Any suggestions anybody has for what this might be would be appreciated!

Check your motormounts and trans mount, including
crossmember to frame bolts.
Second shot would be swaybar

I'd also look at the control arm bushings.

I second the control arm bushings

Thanks guys! I'll check all of your suggestions.
Do you think since the noise is so loud that I'd be able to see a worn area around the troublemaker?

Probably not but look for missing or displaced rubber

probably never hear anything if trans mount, tork side of motor for sure, should also feel that, a-frame bushings would make noise besides on accerlation, anythime brakes applied, and when turning or backing up and turning, look for motor mount

Here's an easy motor mount checking procedure:

With hood up and engine running, put the car in reverse and keep your foot on the brake. Give it a little gas. If the engine stands-up on you, its the motor mount.
