I'm looking at a 454 crank 4" stroke, that was intended to be used with 6.385" rods. The rotating assembly used Manley rods(I don't know which ones) and Wiseco pistons(again I don't know which ones). The assembly was then balanced internally. What would be the most likely thing done to the crank,to achieve this internal balance? Thank you for any help.

Mike,
Depending on the crank manufacturer, it may have been designed as internal balance. Usually this means as large a counterweight as possible to keep from having a wieghted flywheel and damper. If the crank was not originally designed to be internally balanced, it may have required some heavy metal in the counterweights to achieve internal balance.

More than likely with the longer rods, the counterweights are large enough to internal balance without heavy metal.

Bill, thank you for the help. I think I will call the manufacturer and find out how the crank was intended to be used.
