: Color Change?

I read a comment in another post about a color change negatively affecting the value of a vehicle. I have a very original '69 SS that was (originally) frost green. I am in the process of stripping and I'm hoping to change the color, is this not wise? I just can't get behind the frost green, thinking maybe orange...

Thx -JR

Matter of taste I suppose but Frost Green is kinda nice and not too often seen. If the car is 'very original' and you don't plan any changes other than color, I'd reconsider.

At the end of the day you have to live with the car... If you hate the color, i suppose its good that the resale will be higher, as you'll be wanting to sell it sooner! :clonk:

Paint it a factory color from that year that you like, or the years around it (so it will at least look period correct) and it will probably do just fine in value assuming the rest of the car is done as well as the paint is.

Very few people would fault a car that has been repainted a more pleasing color from green.

From you pics, it appears that the car is currently red... So nobody can blame you for changing teh color, since it was that way when you bought it. Just pick a color you like and go with it!

I think it is either black cherry ('70) or maybe the garnet red?. It was repainted once at some point in it's life.. I am thinking of going w/some other '69 color (glacier blue or monaco orange..)

Thxfor the advice!

I had the same problem when i decided to repaint mine... it was orange when i got it... Originally Grecian green, and I didn't want either of those.

I picked a modern gunmetal metallic color, and I don't think ANYONE gave me crap about the color not being original when they found out it was Grecian Green originally.

I do have to say though, I do think dale is right- if the car is going to be nut & bolt restored to exact original, there is no question other than to re-do the original color, regardless what it was... But if you aren't THAT anal about it being perfectly original then, so with what you like.

For the most part I'm going to leave it original - un-restored (except for body/paint and any safety issues)!

Build the car the way YOU want it. When it come time to sell it someone will like it.

Are you going to keep it or flip it? Original will usually bring more money. If you're going to keep it, paint it what you like!

normally i'd say the color should match what left the factory. my 66 Elky was Fawn beige repainted Bright Red. i likely wouldn't have bought it in beige and get tons of compliments on the red.

Keep it for sure (I don't think I'd be turning a profit if I flipped ;-) )

I automatically lost $2,000 on my appraisal for changing from brown to black, but I don't care since I am keepin the car.

With the price of anything less than a gold label restoration of a 100% original car falling in the crapper at the Barret-Jackson auction last week,,, I'd say don't worry about it. paint it to make YOU happy and if some day you want to make a 10 point show car,,,, THEN worry about restoring it to the original color. Otherwise, what do you figure it's worth today?
