I just had a '67 M21 rebuilt at a local shop -- Trans came with ITM shifter mechanism (no shifter) & linkage -- Pics attached. I am unable to find much info on ITM (on this site or after Googling) other than:

http://www.angelfire.com/ia/chevysupersport/shifters.html

which wasn't real helpful.

Questions:
Was the ITM mechanism referred to as the 'Muncie shifter' that everyone discarded?

Is the angle of the shifter mechanism as seen from the rear look correct?

Is this mechanism and linkage worth keeping or should I replace with something else like -- Hurst Competition Plus mechanism?

If I were to replace would the linkage swap out or would this have to be replaced as well?

--------------------------------------------------------------------
Do not have reverse mechanism set up either - have found pics on this site and web - though am admittedly a little anxious about making this work as well.

I am obviously a novice at this --- Your expert guidance as always is much appreciated.

Thanks,
Chris

Inland Tool and Manfacturing. I looked them up and they are still in business, kind of like a jobber metal shop. That is not a Muncie shifter, they are not as nice as that. It looks like a early Hurst shifter to me, but it does not say Hurst anywhere.

That makes sense, the trans GM used after 74 was the aluminum knock off of the ST-10. GM must have fell out of love with the OEM Hurst shfter.

The ITM shifter was also used in 1972 Camaro. It looks similar to the Hurst on the outside but is nothing close inside

Chevy was tight and didn't want to pay Hurst so only used Hurst shifter on 69-71 Camaro and the COPO LT1 Nova that Yenko ordered to make the Yenko Duece Novas.

Pontiac, Buick, and Olds used the Hurst shifters a lot more then Chevy.
