Hi there! I am new to this forum, having been refered to it by a sister forum dealing with Chryslers, allpar.com.

We have a 1981 Chevrolet Malibu, 2-door hardtop, with the 350 cu. in. V8 engine and 3-speed auto tranny. Yes, that's right, this is the 350, no mistake. This car was assembled in Mexico, where GM had an engine plant and that's what was available.

Here's the problem: it takes at least 45 minutes to fill her up at the gas station. The pump just stops every two minutes, then we have to wait, then retry and so on. The guys at the gas station try to avoid us and with just cause.

The mechanic says everything is ok, but of course he may have no idea.

Otherwise, the car runs fine.

Any input will be greatly appreciated!

It's likely that the vent tube is pinched. I'm not sure if your car has an internal tube inside the filler neck or an external vent that runs alongside the filler neck. But the function of the vent tube is to allow air to escape when the tank is being filled. If it's obstructed for whatever reason, the tank will be very difficult to fill.

The restriction could be in the fill line as well. I had a '76 blazer that also took forever to fill after I accidentally lost part of a locking gas cap down the fill nozzle. The key broke off in the tumblers while I was trying to open it on a freezing cold morning. (Why does that kind of crap always happen when I'm already late for work?!!)
