: Opinion-pitted original or repop?
jimkmyc6 Jan 19th, 09, 12:45 PM I can't decide what to do with alot of parts for my car.
My emblems are all there but I would judge them all to be about a 6 or 7 on a scale of 1-10.
There are many parts like this on my car for that matter.
I am budget minded of course and I know eventually I could find OEM parts but I want opinions.
If you see a show quality car with pitted emblems, do you respect that car or look down on it?
:beers:
DaleM Jan 19th, 09, 1:28 PM If the car is a true survivor I prefer the patina of the original emblems, not so perfect factory paint, etc. If the car is 'restored', e.g new paint, buffed or rechromed parts, interior replacement, etal, repoped or NOS emblems would get my vote. If one has gone the expense of body work, paint, etc. in an attempt to return the car to stock (or near stock) condition, pitted emblems, peeling chrome, cloudy or dented side trim, window moldings, etc. would be a distraction in my opinion.
davewho1 Jan 19th, 09, 3:41 PM I've heard nothing but good things about these people's emblems:

Supposedly as good or better than the OEM stuff.
Or you can get your originals rechromed, but that ain't cheap. :noway:
Pete 67 Jan 19th, 09, 5:13 PM I agree with Dale & Dave.
Older pitted emblems on fresh paint is a major faux-pas. However, original emblems on a survivor car is really cool.
I also wouldn't recommend having certain emblems re-chromed, such as fender flags. The amount of $$$, plus the time you will spend trying to detail them is not worth the hassle, IMHO. Plus they will probably not look as nice the Trim Parts pieces.

I understand where you're coming from. I agree with the other posts that if you go to all the trouble to restore the car, pitted or dingy chrome trim is a killer. If you are on a budget, like most of us are, I would try and save up and get what you can a little at a time, I know it takes longer to complete the project this way but it will be worth the wait in the end. On some of your chrome pieces you can have them redone by a local rechroming shop for a lot cheaper than buying new stuff and end up with better quality, thus saving money for other expenses. On some of your trim pieces it is cheaper to polish them yourself rather than have someone else do it. Eastwood sells a polishing kit for the do it yourselfer.
BTW great looking elCamino, I like the color

TCSS1970 Jan 19th, 09, 6:13 PM If you can find the same emblem at Trim Parts and it is a little more its worth it. They look good, fit good and are made good. That's 3X good and that's way up there. Seriously though there stuff is nice.

jimkmyc6 Jan 19th, 09, 11:53 PM Thanks guys, I too, prefer new emblems and always put them on.
My brother has a restored 66 ss that he paid about 30 grand for and his emblems look like crap.
I was just making sure I' not missing the boat somewhere along the line.
Now I know what I can get him for his birthday!
Although I'm budget minded, I can afford emblems.
Now I'll start saving for a virgin, correctly dated 427 COPO aluminum block.:D
