Ok guys, I just realized that I have serviced a lot of newer model automatics and a BUNCH of manuals but never an older automatic:o So I was changing the filter on my th400 trans today and when I removed the old filter I noticed it wobbled. Not thinking anything of it, I put the new filter on the tube but the bolt has me baffled! The hole that the bolt goes through the filter is elongated. There is no way to TIGHTEN the filter, is this correct:confused: I have never seen a filter wobble when bolted down.
Thanks for your time!

The bolt doesn't need any loctite.
Loc-tite on bolts in a trans that don't need it are a pet peeve of mine lately... :(

That is normal, but for that set-up to work properly, you need to have the factory tranny pan on there. You will notice it has 2 lumps about the size of a silver dollar that are staggered and go up towards the filter. Those are there to stabilize it.

Hmm, I got a summit aluminum pan. It does have 4 lumps sticking up, does that sound right?

You're fine,
don't overthink it.

I agree with the "Don't overthink it" but you should know that there is a standard depth and a deep pan. If you have a deep pan you need the longer tube for the filter and the longer bolt.
