Hello Gentlemen,
I have a 1964 SS cont. It has a power top but the pistons, hoses and motor are not installed. The top is lifted manually and I was wondering if the absence of the pistons etc. are the cause. Secondly, where would I find the springs and hardware to change from power to full manual top?

Thanks----Scott Schmedes

Scott..
I believe that without the pistons there would be some slop in the top at the back thus causing the rattling. The manual top and the convertible top are different. In other words you would have to get a complete frame to convert to the manual top. You're probably better off looking for the correct components and restoring your power top..
It's up to you though.
Hope it helps,
Steve

Thanks Steve,
My car is already restored but you answered my problem. I have all the parts but did not install them because I do not put the top down that much and found it easier to just do it manually. That is OK though because now I have something to go on. Are you positive you cannot change from power to manual? Please respond.

Scott.. I'm sure that you could change from power to manual top but If you have a power top that is missing some of the components then I think it would be easier to add the missing components than to search out a complete manual top. Your car would also be more "desirable" with the power top. But that's my personal opinion what you do to your car is your decision.
