Saw this car several times on eBay and I am interested since it is not Red with Black stripes 70 Chevelle SS (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1970-CHEVY-CHEVELLE-SS-396-S-MATCH-12-BOLT-NO-RESERVE_W0QQitemZ360124626774QQihZ023QQcategoryZ61 64QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem) Not that there is anything wrong with the red/black combo, but it seems that is the only colors I am seeing recently. How high should I go?

Man, there is a lot of incorrect stuff to that car. It would depend on the condition of the body. I would see if someone could look at the car to see how it is before I spent a dime on it. I think Mike (704ever) lives down that way, you might PM him and see if he could look at it for you. He knows cars.

If you're looking for a driver, this might not be a bad car. If you're looking for a correct car, this one will take some doing.

Personally, I don't think it's going to do over 22-24K.

Dave,
The last couple of times it has sold for around 17k- don't know why anyone finished the deal though. Front seats are 70's, but not blue like they should be from what I can tell from the cowl tag. Based on your guess, I bid 16.5K and will see what happens. It does have the "L" on the cowl tag and everything I have read from here and other sites, it may be a real SS.

If I get it, I will eventually swap out the bench for buckets and add a console. Rear window trim is something that I am looking at. First couple of times it was listed, it was bowed at the bottom, now it is bowed at the top.

704ever, if you see this and would not mind taking a look, let me know what you think. I am lookig for a driver, not a trailer queen.

It has a 71-2 rear seat in it, the dash looks old and worn, has some janky shifter on the floor. Seats were originally blue cloth bench. Didn't look that close under the hood to see how bad that was.

No build sheet, correct 70 motor with correct date code but no mention of matching #'s can easily be faked, no F-41 suspension, looks like a drum brake master cylinder but hard to tell from pics, needs SS wheels. Just a few things to ask about if you think you are buying a real SS. There are other things, but if you would be happy with a decent looking clone then do not worry about any of this!

I did notice the back seats were not from a 70 and the dash is not "excellent" as claimed(I do have a mint dash and cluster I could put in). Buckets and console is where I would have to look on the forum as how to install. I recently gave away a 70 back seat. My bad, but I did not think I would ever need it again. Will let you know what I hear about the F41 and disc brakes.

Thanks for the advise!!

the front bumper is off alignment, pass side is too high with no gap compared to the drivers side:sad:

It would still make a nice driver with the bumper imperfections though. Right??? I am looking at a driver not a trailer queen.

Thanks for pointing the bumper out, because it is just another thing I overlooked.

Wow, with the info I received so far, I am wondering if 16.5 is too much!?!?!?!

If the body is truly solid and the car runs and drives good I think the money is close at 16.5k. With that being said I don't think the L means much on a 70 but I could get corrected. On 69's it is suspected to be an SS. The dash looks like it might be a Monte dash with the wood grain pulled off. It looks like disc brakes to me. I would sure want to check the trunk and the drop offs and around the wheel wells. Look for bubbles under the vinyl top around the rear window. It looks pretty fair for a driver. But.....that's pictures and it hard to tell. Good luck and check it out before you pay.

Depends oh how much rust is hiding under that nice paint.

The left side front hood is up and the passenger side is low. The hood is out of alignment. I would suspect due to the bumper and hood being out of alignment, there is or has been some front end damage.

That would be a nice driver for $13K-14K
I personally wouldn't pay much more for it. And hopefully it would pass my inspection.
