Hey guys first post, already got a lot of great information from y'all already.

Just got my SS back from the painter yesterday, and need some ideas for wheels and tires. I know there's the big wheel crowd and the original wheel crowd, but any ideas will be appreciated. I'll upload pics of the car here soon. Ideas on companies, models, and sizes are all greatly appreciated.

If it seems like I'm still green around the gills, it's because I am. Got this car in August of 08 as my first muscle car, have worked my tail off and restored it to where it is now, just got to put it all back together.

Thanks Guys!

Hello Hunter and welcome,

You're going to get lots of good ideas from the guys here. For starters, if your car is original or stock looking you may want to consider 14" or 15" stock SS wheels that are original or reproductions of the 1970 SS wheel. If you want to keep the period correct or day 2 look, Cragar or Torque Thust D's are very popular.

Current trends in the larger 17" or 18" wheels and tire combo seems to favor American Racing TT 2's even though you see them everywhere.

Some of the guys have stepped up to even larger wheel/tire combinations but that seems to be more of a fad than a trend.

This is just a start, you're going to want to see pictures and there are a lot in this section as well as using the search function. Maybe if you can give us an idea of the look you want some guys will post up some pictures. Keep in mind if your vehicle is stock or lowered, that your wheel tire combo fits and if your prefer chrome or polished wheels as there are pro's and cons to each. I actually have 2 complete sets for my car....one for the original look and one for fun. Good luck!

If your SS is restored bone stock then 14x7 SS wheels with F-70-14 raised letter tires for Chevy shows and any other high-end show you plan on attending. Then buy a nice set of either aftermarket 15" SS wheels with larger aftermarket radials for general street use if you like the stock look but want the larger more modern tire or buy a set of aftermarket wheels and tires that you like and are happy with and do not worry about what anybody else says, it is your car!!

Alright guys I shoulda been a little more specific I see. It's gonna be a restomod 70 SS with the look of pure muscle but more modern refinements.

I'm hearing a lot on the Rushforths and I also like all of the American Racing stuff. 17 to 18 inch seems to be my rim size of choice with big fat nittos for the rubber. It'd be awesome if anyone with 17 or 18's would post up some pictures so I could get an idea.

Thanks Guys

i purchased vintage wheels for my 70. 17-8 up front and 17-11 on back. they still look old school but with a modern size. not to big but not to small just right in my opion for a pro touring car.

I went with the 17's on my '66.These are Boyd Coddington Mageatos. They give me the stance, better handling, and a great old school look that I wanted to achive.I stil have my rallys, and they are in the garage. As it has been stated,"It's your car",so set i up the way you want...Bob

Welcome Hunter.

I've had everything on my car from 14" stockers to 20" rears and I can honestly tell you that 18's look best to me in terms of filling the wheelwells without looking too big,IMHO.

The beauty of Team Chevelle is you'll have your old-school guys and your P-T guys...and everything in between.
Bottom line is it's your car and you should build it for you,and never have to answer to anyone for anything you do to YOUR car.

Best of luck to you and nice chatting with you this wknd...

First timer here guys hope it goes through. My 70ss is a pro-touring chevelle that has been lowered 3 in. in front and 4 in. in the rear. I've got 17x8 american TT' 2's w/ 4 1/2 in. backspacing. 245/45/17's front and 275/40/17's rear. They fit perfect, no rubbing. You could step up to 17x9 1/2 in the rear and step up to a 315. Hope that helped you out on sizes a little. And yes i know TT 2's are used a lot, but they're hard to beat! No pics posted yet im working on it. gotta crawl before you walk.
