: Best TV commercial in a while!!
Bowtie70ss Jan 16th, 09, 11:19 PM I was just sitting here watching the local news when I saw a very interesting TV commercial. It is for Tom Gill Chevrolet in Florence, Ky. Basically Tom and the whole staff are standing in front of the camera and he tells us to BUY AMERICAN!! He goes on to say go ahead buy a Chevrolet or a Ford or a Chrysler, it does not matter just buy American in these tough times. I cannot help but respect that. It is a sentiment that seems lost these days. I know he is not a sponsor here or anything and I doubt you all will run out and buy a car from him. It just seems appropriate to give him a Kudos somewhere. I would like to buy a new Traverse in the next couple of years and will definitely try and do business with him.

rianbechtold Jan 16th, 09, 11:31 PM I like the M&M commercial when the M&M is running on the grocery conveyer systeml:)
Derek69SS Jan 16th, 09, 11:36 PM As soon as one of them builds a big RWD V8 stick-shift station wagon that gets >25mpg, I'll be first in line. I'm not holding my breath. :clonk:
Bowtie70ss Jan 16th, 09, 11:59 PM I want a car like KITT so I can sleep on the way to work in the morning and have super cool hair like David Hasselhoff.

And when you want to get it on with the little lady in that car, you just have to ask and the windows tint on there own.
"How about a little privacey kitt?" "Sure thing Michael"

Well, it's either a Time Machine or a Magnum for you. Econo cars, sports cars and trucks are all that get sticks these days. I looked for a big car with low options at a reasonable price, but it seems that the price them by the pound any more.
Back to the commercials, I like the insurance commercials with Flo. She's HOT!

Ask him how much his Aveos are
Randy Mosier Jan 17th, 09, 4:42 PM Well, everyone always talks about the Japanese way of doing things. What few people realize is that Toyota, Nissan, Honda, Mitsubishi, Suzuki, and the other Japan based auto makers all corroborate with one another and actually communicate with each other on a regular basis to plan their business strategy for selling in the U.S. Market. It's almost as though they were one giant conglomerate instead of seperate and competing corporations. Even though they are competitors, they put competition aside and present a unified front for the greater good of their countrymen.
I don't know, maybe this is something else Deming taught them?
oldtimebaseballfan Jan 17th, 09, 5:09 PM Glad to see someone promoting Buy US Made. I would like to see more American companies promote their products as American made.
Bryan59EC Jan 17th, 09, 6:29 PM Devil's Advocate
Never had an import in my life
If we Americans do finally opt to pull our collective heads from our hineys----
Will any of our American manufactures build anything we want??
I like big cars-----A 2-dr Impala or Victoria with a rear differential, would get me into a showroom. Available manual trans a big plus. In the 20-25k range.
Anything more than that is just not necessary
I understand that that 2-dr anythings are not gonna be BIG sellers, as they only appeal to the few.
But why should everyone else be absolutely content with their mundane cars, but the few of us that like our rides are ignored------(falls into a minority rights issue)
Absolutely no reason the new Malibu starts at nearly 20k, if not more
Too damn many models and submodels to deal with
The last car to actually really excite me was the introduction of the 93 Lincoln Mark VIII.
The 98 LSC was the last of the nice looking real cars, but was a 35-40k car then.
Bisquit037 Jan 17th, 09, 6:43 PM Has anyone seen the new one that puts the toyota down?? It's awesome, the toyota guy sounds like he has a c-clamp around his nuts. I read that toyota is actually losing business because thier quantity is exceeding quality. Go buy American! :)
Mike Jan 17th, 09, 6:50 PM Dave ,it sounds like Tom Gill Chevrolet got the response from you they wanted.
They played the "Buy American' -any brand -very well.
There's been other Car Dealers using the same "stuff".
Wonder if it's from the same ad agency.
Bowtie70ss Jan 18th, 09, 12:21 AM They did get the response they wanted, but it is not a new philosophy to me. I would buy nothing but American. I wish we could get on board with that a little more and stop sending money out of the country. It's not like American car makers don't have a good product. When we started sending jobs and business out of the country we went from the envy of the world to the laughing stock. I believe charity starts at home and I will continue to buy American as much as humanly possible.
EdCarpenter Jan 18th, 09, 6:32 AM During the early 90's the government mandated all vehicles post the domestic content of their vehicles on the window sticker. It would be interesting to collect the various models of US and transplant vehicles and post their US content of parts.
As an employee of a now closed business suppling to one of the big 3, they were twisting our arm to have parts made overseas and finish them here.

That is the one with Howie Long asking the guy if it's a V8 when the guy says he gets 19+ to the gallon and then he says in the grappled balls tone "they told me V-6" Long then follows up with have fun being a "Real Trucker" :D
My personal favorite at this point in time is the broad dancing around in her button up T-shirt and panties like Tom Cruise in Risky Business advertising the new Rock Band video game.
69badboy Jan 19th, 09, 8:07 AM There is a car dealer advertising the same thing here. Just maybe if people would "buy American as possible" our country would be in much better shape than it is right now.
