: BJ "used car prices"
hpsherlin Jan 15th, 09, 5:58 PM I heard them say quite a few time that this car "sold for a used car price and not a classic car price".
Duhhhh, what do you expect when you are selling used cars that are NOT classics.
I never saw so many late model cars in all the years watching BJ. Gobs of them. And the old cars----many are not desireable or classics-----they are just old used cars.
People with nice "classics" are not selling. Price isn't there.
I just found it hilarious about the used car price quote.
RedAllison Jan 15th, 09, 6:26 PM YEP, ol "Pimp Jackson" knows the glory days have passed. He's still hellbent on "No Reserve" offerings so he's relegated to accepting whatever he could get and like we see, some real CRAP has been offered so far. That ol 450SEL of Dorris Day's lastnight, $70 sumpin hundred. Someone just spent ALOT of money shipping and paying fees on that thing and it would've brought that on any street corner car lot on Main St.
Like I've said, remove the GM Heritage Cars from this years final total and I bet the final take will be waaaaaaaay down from the last few years.

ps
Reckon Craig Jackson has any sparkly streamers and banners to hang over "Westworld" and a plaid suit??? :D
Wheelhop Jan 15th, 09, 6:28 PM Is it me or does that Steve guy with the glasses get a little more obnoxious every year?

busterwivell Jan 15th, 09, 7:07 PM There are other auctions in Phoenix right now, just not televised. Russo and Steele (I think it's called) is a reserve auction. You pay, as I recall, 750 to run the car thru. If it doesn't hit your reserve, no sale, they keep the 750. If it sells at or above your reserve, deduct the 750 from the commission you owe. I wouldn't sell a car with no reserve.
oktunes Jan 15th, 09, 7:46 PM A few times they said "used car price" and the car was $15-$20 grand! I thought that buys a lot of used car around here. I know those guys all live in a different world then most of us. They kept referring to Mike Joy as a respected collector! Some of the comments he makes, I hope he has help when he goes to look at a car for sale.
When something is beyond what they know, they always fall back into talk about a Chevy motor in a Ford or patina! When they say that you know they don't have a clue about what they are looking at.
RedAllison Jan 16th, 09, 12:44 AM That younger guy (Meniata, Megnatta whatever it is?) he seems to know more than the rest of them combined. I remember he used to be on a different show back in the Speedvision days, kinda a techno-nerd type, numbers kinda guy. They hired him as an info consultant a few years ago for the B-J broadcast and by the end of the first broadcast he had a blue shirt on and was standing on the stage with a microphone! :D
Anyone remember that English dude that used to be on the show? He's still on SPEED every now and then but STRICTLY a eurotrash enthusiast. He was an embarrassment for Speedvision back when they first started covering the B-J. He could ramble on for hours about a Jaguar or Austin-Healey but let a smallblock Camaro roll up there and he asked dumber questions than my wife.
The ladies in the red dresses tonight, THEY'RE a nice addition this year!!!

RedAllison Jan 16th, 09, 12:51 AM TOLDJA the prices were inda crapper this year. Dude just admitted they only had 4 on Tuesday night that brought 6 figures, 2 lastnight that brought 6 figures and ZERO tonight that have brought 6 figures...
Not counting the GM Heritage cars and only 2 cars over 100K in 3 days of auction now???
It's Obama's fault, :D

Hui Maka'I Jan 16th, 09, 4:57 AM Perhaps Craig Jackson wiil have to ask for a bail out. I am sure the government will give it to him.
bcice Jan 16th, 09, 12:26 PM In all fairness folks, there are hundreds of makes and models going to roll across the stage at this sale. There is no person alive that knows everything there is to know about all of these cars. To do it to satisfy some of you, Barrett-Jackson would need Chuck Hanson announcing the pro's and cons of a certain Chevy product. Maybe Jack Rousch could do the Mustangs. Richard Petty for the Chrysler Plymouth products. It's just like buying a car off ebay or craigslist. Do your homework first.
bb67H-D Jan 16th, 09, 1:53 PM Hey Red [Jim],
That English dude is Alan Decantra not sure of last name spelling.
He was a sucessful racing driver in the '60's-'70's with likes of Porsche 917's & Ferrari 512's
CanAms , 24 hours of Le mans etc..
Years ago BJ was very big on vintage/rare european sports and racing cars and muscle cars were not as common at the auction , now its a complete turnaround.
Brock Yates also worked the both at BJ but he too seem uninformed on some of the muscle cars.
Alan is quite smart with vintage sport cars he just lacks knowledge of muscle cars.

YEAH, Alan that's him. I knew he was a racer and like you said he knows the eurotrash forward and back. I thought he was funny as a "boob" and the other guys would actually laugh and kid him because they knew (and he'd admit) he didn't know squat about American iron. ;) I wasn't saying he was a bad person, just annoying with the utterly rediculous questions he'd ask while on the air. There is one show he's done on SPEED a few times that I REALLY liked. He was in europe and would drive various racers and early cars from Ferrari, Lots, Porsche etc... Was a FASCINATING show and he was grinning like a kid in a candy shop. He is PERFECT for that kind of show, has the look, the sound and knowledge for such cars. I just was saying he was WAY OUT OF PLACE at B-J Scottsdale from about 1998 too the present.
Brock Yates? There's a name I haven't heard in awhile, I remember him on the ol Nashville Network when I was younger. Didn't he pass away a few years ago?

oktunes Jan 16th, 09, 5:18 PM Alan Decadanay. Not sure about the spelling. It shouldn't be too hard to get a rep from Street Rodder, Muscle Car Review, whatever Corvette mag or group there is, to show up and give opinions about the cars. Probably a lot cheaper then what they are paying the crew they have now. We have guys on this forum that can tell you all you want to know the Chevelles and get it right.
