: Oil leaking fuel pump
Bubba396 Apr 4th, 03, 12:50 PM I have a Holley fuel pump that leaks oil. It’s not leaking at the engine block. It’s leaking around the fuel pump itself. There are about ten or twelve bolts the hold the pump together. I tighten these bolts up regularly but it keeps leaking. Are the Holley pumps normally leak this way? Is there a way to correct it? I’ve tired thread locker and it doesn’t help. Would I be better off with a standard GM type fuel pump? I use my car quite a bit (8,000 miles last year).
Thanks,
Bubba

i had that one, and its a POS!. It kept leaking no matter what i do. I bought a new holley fuel pump (110gph one) and the problem is gone. you will definatley need a new pump.
Bubba396 Apr 7th, 03, 7:09 AM Alan,
My fuel pump looks just like that except it has oil leaking from it.
d1_bradley Apr 7th, 03, 5:09 PM Went through another thread here on the same subject. My Carter 2pc pump did the same thing. Changed to an AC 'sealed' pump. NO leaks. Figured if its good enough for GM on a LS-6 its good enough for me.

I have a Holley fuel pump that leaks oil
I had the same problem the oil looked like it was coming from the fuel pump screws, but it was coming from the pin that holds the fuel pump arm in place and running down onto the screws. I drove it this way for about a year, then the pin fell out and the pump fell apart inside. I had to replace the pump. Dave
Bubba396 Apr 10th, 03, 7:43 PM Dave,
I’ve been driving my car for about seventeen months now with it leaking. So far it hasn’t fallen apart yet. I sent an email to Holley asking them if there is any way to fix it. I’m hoping that they will have a fix or maybe give me a discount on another pump. Free replacement would be nice. I'll post their response.

Bubba396 Apr 11th, 03, 7:59 AM This is the response I received from Holley.
"I would clean the screw holes with brake clean and let them dry then use
red loctite to hold it and then you should be ok."
Already tried the thread locker. I thinks it's time to try a good old stock fuel pump.

slpin Apr 11th, 03, 8:37 PM i really think you should get a new fuel pump and forget about that one.
terrys Apr 14th, 03, 9:01 PM I have one of those pumps and it leaked oil also.
I phoned Holley and they said, " Oh yeah, thats caused by a hold down ring for the internal o-ring coming unseated. It's hard to keep the machine set right that stakes that ring in place.
Just take the pump all apart; and inside you will find an o-ring about 3/4 inch in diameter and there is a metal ring to hold it in place. Push the o-ring down and push the retaining ring down into the groove; and just stake it down good. Use something like a cold chisel and hit the metal around the groove till it bends over the metal ring and the 0-ring under it, tightly in place."
I took it apart and sure enough the metal ring was out of it's groove and so was the o-ring. I re-staked it in place and it's been fine for 2 years now.
I too was a little dissapointed that Holley knew exactly what was wrong, and were not too concerned about their process, and didn't offer any compensation.
