my 72 chevelle has not been starting reliably for the past six months ever since I replaced the alernator and voltage regulator after the battery died. It often takes a few attempts to start it, and requires a long rest after it is driven to start up again. It also stalls if it is not given enough time to warm up. The spark plugs were also recently replaced, and the battery is good. The car will continuously turn over without staring, any idea what is wrong?

Is the idle stop solenoid working? If it doesn't push on the throttle the car tends to die.

Did you measure the voltage drop across the battery when cranking?

Have you checked for spark while cranking? No sparky, no starty.

Try replacing the rotor and cap. Mine has a similar problem and the rotor is bad.
