: Trouble with Radio and power windows (Non Chevelle)
garfield Mar 29th, 03, 12:52 PM I have a 94 Dodge intrepid that has been giving me quite a few problems lately. This car has over 90,000 miles on it already. Anyway, I was driving it around a few days ago and all of a sudden the radio went completely dead. I though to myself "Huh" . Anyway I got out of the car and tried locking the door with the hand remote and that had stopped working as well. I got inside and tried the auto lock on the door panel and that had stopped working also. I don't know what could have happened. I checked the fuses and all of them are good, so I don't know what could have made this happen or where else to look. Does anyone in here know what might have happened?

derekf Mar 31st, 03, 10:19 AM No real idea, but I should be able to narrow it down some.
Verify that +12v is going to the appropriate wires on the radio or on the switch (or relays) for the power door locks (should be easier than checking the receiver for the remote doorlocks)
If there's no power to these, then maybe a broken wire that powers all three? Have you actually replaced the fuse or just looked at it? It may have blown neatly where you can't tell by looking?
chev64 Mar 31st, 03, 6:38 PM Some of those cars have a body control computer, if you can find a schematic of the wiring, check to see if there is one on that car.
garfield Mar 31st, 03, 7:28 PM Sounds like a plan...Thanks smile.gif I also noticed last night that the auto mirror adjust is no longer working either. All of these things all seemed to have died at exactly the same time. I just hope that whatever parts I need won't cost more than the car itself is worth :(
rusty66 Apr 1st, 03, 12:35 AM Garfield. My car has what GM calls a Retained Accesory Control unit. This unit holds power on things like radio, power windows, ..... after the ignition is put off.
Perhaps you have somthing like it.

garfield Apr 1st, 03, 7:33 AM Where would that be located on this car?
garfield Apr 1st, 03, 12:24 PM Thats O.K. I just found it. Mines is under the kick panel on the passenger side. Its a little black box thats called the Body Control Module. I called the local junk yard and they said that they have one that they want $80 for. Man, I hope that this solves my problem..Wish me luck smile.gif .......Thanks!
derekf Apr 1st, 03, 2:07 PM Before dishing out 80 bucks, can you tell if power is going in and not coming out? I think I'd want to make sure it was going to fix things before dropping the cash on it.
Not knowing much about newer cars I don't know if it can really be tested like that...
chev64 Apr 1st, 03, 4:39 PM does it smell burnt?
garfield Apr 1st, 03, 11:54 PM a little.
rusty66 Apr 2nd, 03, 12:39 AM Garfield.
To be more complete, my unit holds power for a certain amount of time (10 minutes) after the ignition is shut off.
My manual shows the RAC controls 2 relays. Each one supplies the necessary power to its own circuit. Could be yours has too and perhaps one of the relays is at fault.
Mind you I am talking about a Buick, not a Dodge.

Rusty Bucket Apr 4th, 03, 2:14 AM My '93 GMC Ralley STX(12pass. van) lost pwr. windows, radio, A/C blower and trans. shifted goofy. The problem was the ignition switch located on top of the steering column. Apparently 1 "blade" on the switch powers all these accessories and it was all blackened and burned. Replaced it about 2yrs. ago and lived happily till now and it's done it again, same symptoms. Maybe it'll be easier the second time.
garfield Apr 5th, 03, 3:05 PM When you say switch, do you mean the electrical part, or the wiring part?
