: Hood Spring???

I have a 65 Chevy Malibu SS. It has the original hood. The hood dosen't stay up when open...I figured the springs were worn out. I ordered the correct replacement springs, and now the hood won't even close correctly. It sits up high...

Is the hood even supposed to stay up on it's own, or did they have a metal rod that held the hood up for the 65 Malibu??
When the hood is down the springs are expanded, when the hood is up they springs collapse...is this correct??

Any help is much appreciated!
Thanx for your time.:beers:

The springs should collapse when open, the spring wants to be closed therefore keeping the hood open. So it sounds like you have the spring part of it correct.

You can place a shim/washer between the hinge & hood ,there are four mounting bolts so depending where your hood sits high would indicate where you shim.
Using a shim will actually lower the rear of the hood.

If you push down on the back of the hood when it's closed will it go down? It's sounds like your hinges are worn out. It's usually the hinges, not the springs that wear out.
