I have a 1971 w/ a 350 and my fan is spinning at the rate of my engine rpms. I found out that it isnt my choke that is acting up but my fan clutch. I need to know what kind to get because I think there are two differnt kinds, heat and tension, something like that. Also if anyone has any suggestions on how to pull the old one off, or putting the new one on that would be great! Thanks a ton! ~Mike

I would get a thermal clutch. There should be 4 nuts that hold it on the water pump and removing them will get it off the pump and then take out the four bolts that hold the fan on the clutch, swap the fan over to the new clutch and reinstall it on the water pump. Need anymore help, just post here.

If you are going to go with a new clutch fan, go to a GM dealer and not Auto Zone or etc. Why not think about a flex fan? Cheaper and I think works just as good. Looks better too.

JMO, I've always thought the flex-fans were noisy if they were big enough and had enough pitch to cool well at idle/low speed. I think if they're beating up enough air to be noisy they probably cost power too. I get pretty good service life out of the cheapy auto parts chain store brand fan clutches. Don't mind the way the 7 bladed fans look either.
