Guys, I'm new to the forum, sorry if I'm posting in wrong location. I have just started looking for a Chevelle to restore. Where on the site would be a good location to bounce ideas out that stuff and find out what to expect price wise? I have found a 68 Chevelle with a new 454, new rear end. The cars body has surface rust and rust behind front tires on rocker panels. The guy wants $5500 for the car and engine. I don't have pics of the car, but is this out of line?
Thanks for any advise. BTW, reason for sudden car interest, I turn 40 this year, have 3 small girls and grew up driving a Monte Carlo with 402 engine, wanting a mid-life crisis project. Am I crazy?

Check out the "what's it worth" forum and also the classified section. Check a lot of local stuff and also craig's list and ebay. Get yourself a good idea of what they bring. A lot depends on how much work needs done. Also, on a '68 an SS will start with 138 on the VIN. Should have the same on the trim tag on the firewall but these are legally replaced and often are. An SS will bring better money.
The crowd on here are always glad to "critique". Post pictures and/or more info and they will be glad to oblige you.

Jeff,
I am new to this forum as well and I don't think anyone who has a need for American Muscle is crazy! My wife, however, disagrees entirely. She just couldn't understand how paying $600.00 for a rusty old 68 chevelle could bring such joy to a forty-two year old man. It's been two years and the car just made it into the garage! Good luck in your search and think about what you want to do with it. Me? I'm going pro stock...."crazy is based on three things...Attitude, Aptitude and the depth of your wallet"
