We get an exhaust smell inside our 70 L34. The exhaust system is all intact and doesn't seem to have any holes or leaks. It blew out the fiber donut and was real bad - then we put a metal donut in it and it is a lot better but still some. Any suggestions beyond an entire new exhaust system. Thanks

Does your car have rust through problems in the quarters or trunk floor? Can you hear an exhaust leak anywhere? Do your tail pipes exit outside of the car?

the body, floor, firewall , and trunk all seem to be solid with no rust, cracks, or holes. We haven't been able to hear an exhaust leak and the exhaust tips exit out past the back bumper???? Thanks for the help!

I just posted about this question a while back. No obvious leaks, no rust, full exhaust, etc. And you get ou of the car smelling like the exhaust dumped right into your face.
My car runs really rich.. and a TC member suspected that was the cause. A well running non-computer controlled car shouldn't smell that bad, but when you have lots of unburnt/partially burnt fuel coming out and swirling around at the back of the car, I think the smell travels inside because its so much more intense than a correctly burnt exhaust mixture.
Mine gets so bad I get sleepy, I think from the CO thats coming in with it.
So is it running rich? The inside of my tailpipes are black, and it even stained the paint-color thing under the bumper (*really* annoying) it was running so rich.
