My 69 chevelle has a different motor mount than stock. The mounts I ordered from OPGI were the same ones I could get local but they don't fit over the tower. the opening is too narrow on the mounts. we found a set that is wide enough but we needed to shim them with washers between the block to get them to fit.
Has anybody had this happen to them? The towers look original
Thanks

The 307 towers are wider than the 350-454 are. Order mounts for a 307 Chevelle and you will be all set.

Car have a 307 or a 350 originally ?
You need to use the same mounts as the frame mounts ie:307/307 or 350/350 as they don't interchange.
Short/wide is the 307's which is what it sounds like you need

I have the mounts for a 307 but I need to shim them to have the bolt holes between the mount and tower to line up. I have a late 80's 350 block and the car came from the factory with a 307. I didn't think the blocks were different in this reguards.

blocks are the same.
307 mounts are short and wide.
350 mounts are toll and narrow.
can not me mix matched.
block pattern is the same all years.
i run a 96+ block on 307 mounts. no need for shimming. move the motor up or down, side to side to get them to fit.

It took us about 2 hours of lifting, twisting, jacking the car front up but we finally got it to fit. I never had a car fight so much.
thanks guys

I buy short rubber mounts based on WANTING to shim them to fit.
Gives me extra clearance to route the plug wires under the headers; and then if one wire fails, it's no big deal to pull the wire back through the mount with everything bolted up.
I use short stacks of hardened washers between mount and block, and bolts of suitable length to achieve proper thread engagement in the block.
Shimmed to appropriate height, the engine should drop right onto the frame pedestals; should take no extra effort to make 'em work. The cross-bolts (with the pointed ends) practically install themselves.
