Folks this is not a Chevelle issue but is a GM one that is ragging me out. It is my wife's car a 1995 Olds 88 with a 3800 Series II motor, for about two weeks now sometimes it will not turn over at all, the warning lights come on and all but no sound or rotation, I had it at a garage and they said it would have to duplicate before they could properly troubleshoot it since so many things are intergrated, I agree but hope maby someone has had a simular problem, it almost sounds like a relay that is not doing its thing all the time. It will go for days and do just great, (not a battery or cable connection problem), thanks for any suggestions.

Mine did the same thing, turned out to be a bad ingnition lock (the chip in the key thing)
New lock cylinder and key fixed the problem
BTW, when mine did that usually I could turn the ignition off for a couple of minutes and it would start on the second try

Thanks Dean, great info and the chip thing makes good sense, I got to thinking and about a month ago the security light would not go out immediately after starting like it should, that is a switch/chip/key item also. I appreciate your response.

I'll agree with the new key and tumbler. GM has this "passkey" system with a pellet in the key of a certain resistance and the module looks for the known resistance before allowing the engine to start. When you pull the tumbler, inspect the small orange or white wires that attach to it, they sometimes break, especially with tilt steering. If this isn't it, check to see if you have power going to the starter from the ignition switch via the same purple wire GM has used for years.
