Around the mid 70's I worked at an old style gas/service station. We had a regular customer that had a 71 Chevelle wth a small block 4 speed. He would bust up those Saginaws like they were butter and we would always make sure there was a spare in the shop for him. At that time, a used Muncie was probably only 100- 150 bucks more and the boss finally talked him into spending the extra. He'd bust them up as well but not near as often.

if they got trashed as mush as you all say,,
then I'd think a '72 date codes sag, would be rare????? no?
is 225.00 out of line??????????
no idea what they go for..
did the super t 10's and the t-10's use the same case/parts??
did the t-10 in the 3rd gen f body and g body, use the same case???????
other than all the jokes, could some one REALLY ANSWER THIS QUESTIONS
it be good to know.

This answers ALL your questions.:thumbsup::yes:
Unless its behind a 6 cyl or a 307..........it ain't gonna be in one piece for long.

NO it's not a rare piece
by looking at the bellhousing it looks like its from a truck (I can tell thanks to Tom Parsons bellhousing clinic) & probably why it hasn't been run hard.

As for how much they go for?
Ask your local scrap metal guy...........really.

A Saginaw is not a T-10. They are made by 2 different companies. The Saginaw is really the weak sister of manual transmissions. I had a '66 Nova SS with a 327-275 HP with the stock skinney tires and could break the Saginaw anytime I wanted to. Put more HP or stickey tires and you won't get out of the parking lot!. For the time and hassle of fixing it you can replace it with a Muncie. $225 is about $200 more than it's worth, unless you are building a non driven show car. They are junk - end of discussion!

Say what you will about them, but here's MY experiance.....When I got my car it was probably pushing about 300 - 325 HP (396) and it had crappy 60 series tires on it, nothing special..... Well I can tell you that I FLOGGED it every chance I got and the Saginaw somehow managed to survive about 5 seasons of abuse..If fact it's still sitting on my garage floor in perfect working condition, so I'm not sure they're quite as bad as people say they are..

But that's just MHO...

Please take my post for what it's worth.....I'm sure not saying they're bullet proof by any means... But I'm telling you I beat the snot out of mine for a while and it took it just fine, and my car actually hooks pretty decent with the boxed lowers, sway bars, and no hop bars......

Well, the bellhousing IS for a truck..........If that is the bellhousing that is original to the trans, then yes its a truck trans.

it may but I'd bet against it because you won't be able NOT to put your foot into it once in a while.;)

I have a positive saginaw experience. When I was 16 I was finishing up my 67 Chevelle and put a Saginaw in it because I knew I was going to beat the hell out of the car. It had a worked 355, and a 3.36 posi. Car was full interior and all steel. The saginaw was the weakest of all ratios with a 3.50 first gear. I beat on that car for a full 2 years, launched it on slicks almost every weekend at the track or on the street and never broke that transmission. The car 1.7 60 footed and went 13.0's all day. After I swapped it out for a Muncie, I put it in a 67 camaro and there it resided until I put in a Muncie and now the tras sits on my shed floor. Saginaws are a good entry level transmission.

I gotta ask............
you sure this trans was not a Super T10?
Some (the stronger ones has cast iron cases)
