I'm really interested to see what happens this year to the classic car market as a whole. Does anyone have any predictions?

My prediction is you won't hear Craig Jackson saying "this is a million dollar car" again this year :D

Yes, I predict that there will be a lot of disappointed sellers. IE: No reserve Auction

I predict they will keep saying its a record year, not taking into account they brought 100 more cars lol. Everything I have seen is top quality stuff has held pretty well but still down a good 10-15%. Prices at BJ will never truely reflect what the real world is, Mecum on TV was a heck of a lot closer to reality to me.

the start of the acution prices will be low and towards the end of the price will be high. gm has alot of one off cars being sold this year with most of them going on sunday.

Jackson doesn't care, he gets 18% of every car, plus the consignment fee, no matter what. It should be interesting for sure. The dirty little secret is, we'll never know how many sellers had to buy their cars back and take the ultimate beating. I love the anouncers who keep saying after every car, " That's another car sold, going to a good home " Yeah right, what they should be saying is " There's another seller who either lost his shirt on the block or is paying dearly to bring his car home ". Don't get me wrong, a lot of people have made a lot of money in the free wheeling days but I believe they are over and have been for some time at BJ. Just my .02

Lots of neat cars, but lots of BS from announcers that don't know what they are looking at or what prices are in the real world. They say "that's well bought". I'm thinking"some stupid sob paid that much for that Edsel". Paint is too good, this has a clear coat on it. It's original paint and not up to par with todays standards. Nobody wants to see a Chevy motor in a Ford. This is the way they built them back in the 50's. On an on with the BS. I sure like seeing the cars, though. Sure prices will down but we'll still hear how good the collectable car market is and that we should all put our IRA money into cars!

Always figure that I could bulld a car for much less than most sell for. But if I had the money, I wouldn't have the time. Oh well..

I was there in 07' at Scottsdale(Just so I can say I was there before)It's ALOT of pre-work just to be able to enter the "bidder's tent"(a person should pre-register in Oct. along w/sending a bank letter of credit w/a mininum of $30,000.00 for approval to bid.The better buys IMHO is Palm Beach on the earlier days of the auction(wed-thurs).Out side of that FORGET IT!By today's economy standards,I feel the #'s will be LOWER than before,Less people there bidding,No more "record year" and this will more than likely push B-J to increase their %'s to sellers and buyers pass the GET REAL limits.:noway:

The few guys I talk cars with feel that the cars that most of us can afford will go down a little but the high dollar cars will go off at the same price as last year. :secret:

I would be terrified to roll a no reserve car across the block in this economy, no matter how nice it was!!!!!!!!

You are so right Jeff,I wouldn't want to be a seller standing there during this economy saying,"WHAT THE HE77 JUST HAPPEN!!!

anyone ever sell a car on barrett?

a good buddy of mine sold a 57 chevy convertible on there a few years back. Him and "spanky" the auctioneer owned it and you could tell cause spanky drug that auction for as long as he could to get the most out of it.

My prediction, Craig J. and Steve D. are going to come directly to Canada after the auction and tie the knot. Of course with Carrol S. approval.

As far as the cars, some expectations will be met while others won't, either way I figure it will make for good T.V. as usual and am looking forward to watching as much as I can.

I'll cuss Craig Jackson like a plow mule, I'll roll my eyes at the rediculous and obvious BS stated by the announcers and I'll complain about the ludicrous butt kissin from the auctioneers... but I'll STILL watch every single minute I can!!! Funny, if this auction were in the middle of summer NO ONE would watch it, but Jackson is smart enough to realize the majority of us are stuck in the middle of cabin fever right now. :(

Oct 08 in Vegas opened the door to reveal what's gonna happen this year. I think Craig is HOLDING HIS BREATH hoping the place doesn't look like a joke this year. The offerings are down considerably, the last two years there have been some cars offered Tue-Fri morning that make you go, "WTH is Jackson thinking by selecting these POS?" This years non-primetime offerings are WAAAAAAAAY below '03-'06 same time offerings. But it's a sign of the times.

GONE are the days of simply stepping up behind that desk with title in hand and making a fortune. That alone has run away alot of the sheisters and chitkickers who have otherwise nice cars. The heavy iron like real COPOs, ZL-1s, big block Vettes, Hemi's, documented Shelby cars etc... those cars will still bring money but even those cars will be down. They were lastyear and especially last fall. What used to be a $500k car is now a $275k-$350k car. The million dollar hemis and such, those will be interesting. Even the most kissed butt up there, Ron "Anything at any price" Pratt is down on money this year. (He sold his company recently and hasn't been paid fully yet and the market for construction products in AZ is WAAAAAAY down! Plus you figure they are just like us, their money in the market STILL took a hit. A 30%-50% hit in the market is STILL a 30%-50% hit, whether it's $100k from $200k or $50Mill from $100Mill.)

I think real, true, documented cars of ALL types/engines will still bring decent money, but I think they'll still be overall soft. But what I hope to see is the CRACK SMOKIN prices paid for clones/tributes and restomods, I hope those take it in the shorts like a back alley prostitute. Remember 06 when folks would pay 6 figures for a 318 Roadrunner with a Hemi slapped in it with a good paint job? THOSE kinda cars should be doing well to break even this year. Nothing special, run of the mill small block Abodies and regular Camaros that shine well under the lights... that have brought $40k-$60k in the past? Those guys are probably wishing they could trailer the things back home today! Sure is a GREAT time to buy such drivers for the hell of it. Today for the same money you could buy only 1 of such a car 2 years ago you can now buy 2 maybe even 3 of those kinds of cars.

I think you'll also see a slight decrease in the best hot rods from the big guys like Foose, Coddington etc... BUT one thing about those kinds of cars, people realize it co$t$ LOT$ of money to build the upperend billet wonders so there's still a premium paid for such labor and detail. They didn't really skyrocket like the muscle cars so I don't think they'll plummet downward so quickly as well. A different and "more stable" market of buyers usually.

I think the outright STUPID crap like that artists bus and that flying car from lastyear and anything else that really doesn't matter, I hope those things will do good to bring scrap prices in todays market.

Ok GOTTA haul ass home now from the office, first night of coverage is comin up shortly!!! :beers:

I noticed there are a lot of fairly late model cars being sold from tonight thru Thursday night. Will look like a regular used car auction. I love to watch it even with the flaws. Makes for good tv.
