: Power Steering Bracket

I think i'm still missing a piece for the power steering brackets. Is their supposed to be a piece in between the c-shaped bracket and the exhaust manifold? I think I used to have a bushing, a spacer, or something in between the two. Nothing is lining up. Any help would be great.
Thanks

Check my web page in the Under the Hood section. There is a shot there of my brackets (with the AC bracket part sawn off) Maybe it will help.

If you're talking about the round spacer between the bracket and the headers, we used a Craftsman socket that we polished. This was a trick from a retired hot rod guy here in Las Vegas.

Hope this helps (Unless you are talking manifold, not headers?).

Trever.if you still have problems with your power steering brackets, ...try to find a Alan Grove catalog.I threw away my March brackets and bought his.No problems (you have to paint yourself).

LVMAXX,
That is one of the things that I was thinking about. Could a bushing just be used? I think that their might be another bracket though that goes in front of the head, unless that is for an AC Compressor. I was just looking off of another picture.

smokin 406,
What type of a catalog is this? Can you subscribe for one off the net?

Thanks

Was your car originally an A/C car? Has a 2-grove pulley and not the one groove pulley on the P/S pump??
The bracket you asked for was the adjustment bracket for a non-A/C car.
Haven't checked the assembly manual but checked my 72 non A/C versus the 72 A/C 350 I have sitting behind the garage. The inner bracket where the pump mounts to the block is different.
Anyway, I think your problem is that you have an A/C set-up and I'm not sure but it looks like mixing pieces won't work.
*EDIT*
I re-looked at everything. The brackets look the same between the two engines. Look on page 429 of the assembly manual. The bracket I sent was item #1. There are no spacers. That's the way my came from the factory.

I must be hanging it wrong then. It is a non-AC car. I'll take a look at the assembly manual. How are you supposed to bolt the one piece on that bolts in between the pump and the pulley?

There are 2 brackets on the pump. Are you refering to the "C" or cradle looking bracket or the "L" shaped bracket that goes on the outside (towards the fender)?
You have the right water pump??? There's a place on the water pump below the water pump mounting bolts to hang the cradle bracket from.

I've got the cradle part and the water pump bracket on. I just don't have the parts on that hold the belt or pulley tight against each other.

Thanks Maxx2. If it's hanging from the water pump it should line up with the bracket that's mounted on the exhaust manifold.

Well, it's kind of hard to tell if it will line up when you can get the bolts in to hold the sliding adjuster bracket on.

So how and where are the brackets not lining up?

I'm confused on which hole of the bracket goes onto the head and which holes goes onto the adjuster bracket.

Here's the pics. We took these as we disassembled the engine for the buildup in our signature. And yes, we painted it yellow again.

Still referring to the "C" shaped cradle bracket? Looked at the assembly manual? It doesn't screw on the head. It goes into an extra hole that is cast into the water pump. This hole is below the mounting bolts.

Thanks for the pictures.

I must be referring to the bracket you sent me, the "L" shaped I guess. What page in the assembly manual is this on?

Page 429 of the 72 assembly manual. Richard's setup is the same as shown in the book. The bracket I sent is shown on the engine8 picture. He has a chrome spacer on his because he has headers. With the stock exhaust manifold the spacer isn't used. I think you have all the parts if you have a pump and brackets that look like Richard's. He has the A/C 2 groove pulley while I have the non-AC single pulley.
I have the other brackets if you need them.
