I just spent $75 for an hour of labor at a local shop to do a simple job that I could have done myself with the right jack. I need a long-frame jack that can lift my F-250 (lifted 6 inches with 37” tires) from the frame. My small jack that I’ve been using for my cars can’t even reach the frame of the truck. I found a jack at Harbor Freight, but don’t want to buy it if it’s junk. I don’t want to spend a ton of money since I will only use it once or twice a year, so the $179.00 price is in my target range.

Any recommendations?
Thanks,
Dave

just put a 6X6 block of wood on the saddle of your existing floor jack- no need for any special jack.
if putting the block on the saddle seems kinda redneckish for your tastes, then use a few blocks to make a platform to set the jack on...

For years I have been recommending various sizes of blocks of wood as essential shop equipment. For less than $10 you can go to your local lumber/hardware store and pick up a 10" x 2" x 6' board. Cut it into three 2' sections. Stack them as needed and place your jack on top of them to make up for your 6" lift. I would also recommend that you get a 4" x 4" x 4' square post and cut it into 12" lengths. You can lay out a series of three or four of the 4"x4" foot long pieces underneath the 10" x 2" x 2' pieces of wood if you need more height. The nice thing about having a small slection of blocks of wood is that they are inexpensive, versatile, and they store easily.

I have that exact long frame jack form Harbor Freight, does what I need it to do. It is real handy to get a car way up high on jack stands to work under.
If you have no intention to use it for a business, then I suggest you get it.
Blocks of wood are for chalking the tires not jacking up vehicle. Be safe and use jack stand also any time you are under a vehicle.

Thanks to all that responded. I will probably go pick this jack up at my local Harbor Freight store, as I have not seen anything comparable at anywhere near this price point.
