: exhaust popping on one side on deceleration

Have '72 454 in 68 chevelle. Exhaust is popping on one side on deceleration. At idle it also sputters on same side. It doesn't hit like the other side. What could this be????

It sounds like you have a valve problem on one bank of the engine.I would pull the problem side valve cover and look for any obvious problems,rocker nut backed off,bent push rod,broken valve spring.Hope this helps.

They say that to much timing pops in the exhaust and to little out the carb,or vise versa

Exhuast leak I think, the leak pulls air in on decel and has a little "mini combustion" in the collector/mani.

that happend to me, it ended up that the exhuast pipe conecting to the manifold came lose so i jsut tighted it back up and propblem was gone...

Make sure both mixtures screws are adjusted the same amount. Count the # of turns it takes to close one of the mixtures screws. Set both of them to the one with the most turns. This should even the fuel mixture for both sides.
