Cannot figure this one out. I replaced the 25a fuse at the fuse block and when I attempt to turn on the fan the fuse pops. I cannot see/find any shorts anywhere. Has anyone experienced this? BTW its a 68 chevelle w/ac (currently not in car) When I first got the car this fuse was blown so I replaced and all was fine. Now its blown again and just keeps blowing as soon as I stick in a new one and use the switch. Nothing happens the fan makes no attempt at starting, but it did use to start. If I remember when it worked it was quiet, no noises/squeaking. Thanks.

The fan motor itself may be burned up. The switch does nothing more than provide a path to ground and does not have 12 volts flowing through it. So odds are, there is an internal short in the motor, causing a direct short to ground when you flip the switch on.

yea, sounds like an internal short to me. my buddy had a similar problem, but he just kept rechecking the circuts, and everntually found it

I'd disconnect the purple wire off the fan and see if it still pops the fuse. Actually on this circuit the switch does switch 12 volts. One thing it could be it the switch that the slide actuators engage. This gets selected when you select the system to hot. Could be shorting to the lever. As said above try unplugging a couple of things and see what stops the popping.

Could also be the motor going bad and pulling more amps than the circuit can hold. the more resistance the more the amp draw.

Have you checked the blower resistor? It usually goes into the heater box someplace between the fan and the switch.
There are a bunch of open coils there that the air movement is supposed to cool. Sometimes they get messed up.
